A lot of people say that the CX is a terrible PSU. What should I do?

I mean I've been using my cx750m for about 4 ish years now. Had my i5 3570k at 4.8 since day one and have had a massively overclocked 7950 on it that I coin mined with for weeks straight and also had a gtx770 that had a decent overclock and now a gtx970 that has a massive OC on it. Never had a bit of trouble out of mine and is has even been through quite a few power losses.

Edit* I also don't ever turn my pc off, it stays on 24/7 and I don't let it go into sleep mode or hibernate or whatever.

It's a bad unit for high end rigs. I would advise replacing it when you can, but it is not going to blow up, like a lot of people will tell you.

I don't have a super beefy skylake rig I just have a 4690k and a 970. What would you reccomend as my PC randomly booted off while GTA v was launched

I would recommend replacing it for that rig.

Do you have a budget for a PSU? Something like and EVGA GS 550W would be a good alternative.

Throw it into a volcano. No but seriously, get an XFX, EVGA B2/G2, Seasonic or SuperFlower, you can't go wrong with those. XFX are the cheapest if you're on a budget, but most of those are not modular if you care about it. I'd recommend getting at least a 650W one for more headroom for future upgrades

what would you recommend?

I'm gonna replace mine either with a Corsair Hx850i or Seasonic equivalent.

EDIT: Mine is the modular version just so you know.

I have a gtx970 and a 4690k

People here love to hate on the CX line, but it's not as bad as they say. I've had a couple of CX that I have used on gaming rigs for a few years and I never had any trouble with them. One of them has survived a few power surges (don't try it at home though). I treated them well (they were in chassis with good airflow, and they were not touching the ground) and they treated me well. However, if you're planning on overclocking, I would recommend switching to a better PSU.
