Alternatives to weight lifting?

in june I started rollerblading I sucked.... like SUUUUUUCCCKKKEEEDDD at it I didn't fall that much but I looked like a super drunk zombie being all herky jerky with my arms straight out.

I would only go out after dark because I didn't want to get seen by anyone. from june to july I went from barely getting around the block to doing 15km sessions nightly. I still suck, I have a hard time doing a proper hockey stop.

Not talking about losing weight, talking about endurance. It's alright being able to lift tons of stuff, it's no good if you can't do it for very long. If you can run for 5-10 hours at once without a break then you're in as good physical condition as any.

Wow. I have decent athletic ability and I'm pretty sure I can't run for 5-10 hours without a break, nor have I ever considered trying something like that. Isn't that a bit extreme?

You can try belt squats. It takes the weight off your spine and many people with scoliosis have used it safely before. Other than that, swimming is good option.

 

You should consult a professional for what you can do safely though.

Bike. Biking can work your whole body on a long ride. its fun too. 30-40 miles a week is a nice easy number to reach and is a great cardio and muscle workout.

Not at all. You should read Born To Run. It's a book about how humans are... well... born to run. We're the only species with feet like ours, the only ones with cardio systems like ours, the only ones with coolant systems like ours. Other primates don't have Achilles' tendons, so they can't walk or run upright. Animals like deer, antelope, pretty much anything on 4 legs can't hold a candle to humans in terms of distance running without breaks; they overheat, they die. Before humans had weapons, they hunted animals by basically running them into the ground, because most animals can't run for nearly as long as humans can without dying of exhaustion. Those that can go for longer just take a bit more time to collapse. There's this tribe in Central America that has this game, they kick a ball across a "playing field" 200 miles across. They just run and run and run. It's pretty crazy.

When you are going to bed put a pillow under your back and put your arms and feet in the air. If they become numb just spin them in circles. You can later do this with weights.

Can't swim because I don't know how, all I can do is trying not to drown.

 

Well the answer is learn how to swim, frankly nothing actually gives my chest, shoulders, neck and to an extent back and abs a work out than a couple of laps.

And I weight lift every morning for 10 minutes in the office. But thats because most of the work I do my arms stay sternly at my side, so its the only time those muscles get any decent use. But never feel as stretched or relaxed as after a good swim.

Its not my fault I am grumpy, you try having a porcelain todger that's always hard!
