Did I miss something?

I got the last update on Wednesday, logged on explored my hanger, ships, and outside the hanger. Cool.

Then I figured lets got fly around...and bummer the only thing I can free fly around is a hornet  . Did this change? I really wanted to fly my new Merlin. I know I have been off since mid August since my laptop died but I no happy...

Maybe I remember wrong or I am doing it wrong. Help?

When was the last time you played? You currently have to go through either the pod/capsule, or hit escape and open up the Arena Commander module. Just entering the ship's seat doesn't activate all ships in the hangar. Don't forget that under free flight you do have a drop down under the ship name to change ships. Also, clarify on the RSI site what ships you have. I can attest that the merlin is indeed flyable.

Its been since August since I played last.

Its just that the only ship that is listed in the free flight is the hornet and I don't own that ship. I thought my ships I own would be listed as well.

I know that entering the ships in the hanger doesn't do anything.

I own both the P-52 Merlin and the Constellation Aquila separately.

Yeah I had posted a different thread in it I was confused about the Merlin under the Constellation and the Merlin I owned separately looking different from each other.

There is possibly a racing version of the Merlin that was announced recently its the P-72.

No, the one underneath the Constellation is not the P-72 its an earlier render of the P-52 Merlin i was in formed in reply of my question in the other thread.

What I am posting here is I am confused about the free flight.

When you have a ship you don't own in free flight, this is because the ship acts as a 'loaner' until the actual ship you own is flight ready.

 

What I think is the problem is that the constellation you have is not available and that you are taking into the account that it will have a merlin with it, but this is a bit of a misnomer. The only way to fly a merlin is if you have the stand alone 'extra' merlin that people purchase. If you are counting the merlin as the one that automatically comes with the ship, then it is likely still under the 'not ready' category as the constellation is. Thus you can only fly a hornet.

 

 

If this is the case, the only thing I can suggest is to just wait, or to send a support ticket, or forum thread/report, on the RSI site to request the unlocking of the ship for flight, as you technically own it.

Actually, RSI forums does what RSI forum does and got angry about the P-72 being classified as a racer. Ben made a clarification post that the Archimedes is NOT a racer by definition. Yes, it is faster than the Merlin, because it's bigger. The render which was shown, as in it looking like a racer, was just one of the things you could use it for.

 

In the end, it's still a very luxury variant, just as the Phoenix is

My apologies for not noting it fully or forgetting that portion of your prior comments. I'm posting with far less sleep than usual. The question on when last played is more due to the possibility that UI changes may have made your understanding of the interface change. I must have skimmed past some points...

 

Since that is not the issue, trying the old 'delete user folder' trick might help. If not, then you might need to clarify if there is anything wrong with your hangar listing on RSI, or profile. If none of those are any indicator, or fix the issue, then you may want to try the support ticket.

Best of luck, if worst comes to worse, still got the old REC to try. I also might be wrong, but I think the drop down option for ship choice might be smaller or less noticeable than it was in 1.2. It seemed a little different last time I played.

Oh and I discovered something interesting the Constellation Aquila's Merlin is flyable separate from the Constellation in the sims. The selector allows me to select either merlin I have.

I think I will trade my other Merlin (the stand alone one) for something else.   But I will wait to be sure.

Glad it worked. What were you thinking of upgrading too? Just don't forget that it keeps the original insurance, so if there are anniversary or concept sales, melt it (you likely already know that, but it pays to pay it safe).

Well I bought the Merlin before upgrading the Aurora MR to a Constellation Aquila. I did not like the Aurora at all.

But I did some dog fights with the Merlin and it is an excellent fighter, nice response time, fast, and very accurate. I can snipe with the cannon it has it its nose (size 2) I do wish it was a size 3 cannon though. But man its a sweet fighter for the size/mass it is. I am glad I have it. 

I highly recommend the Merlin.

It sounds like they don't want to allow that level of modification, they want to allow some modification while still keeping each ship restrained within the category it was designed for so it'll be more about over/underclocking components than full on ship modification, you'll be restrained by the existing size and types of ports at each hardpoint. IIRC at some point they gave the modification of Serenity at the end of the movie as an example of something you probably wont be able to do.

A thought of mine was to make my own variation of a fire ship in space. Fill it with explosives, radioactive materials, and use it like an area of effect torpddo.
