Who thinks that used parts are worth it

Depends on the part. Used CPU's, mobo's, RAM, coolers, GPU's are fine imo. Hard drives, ssd's, psu's not fine.

I get them just after new stuff drops as people are upgrading.

I wouldn't have been able to get that 980 had it been new.

Lga 775 mobos are fking expensive where I live, a decent one (g31) is atleast 30€. Even dead ones with bent pins are close to 10€, and I understand why- an Asrock G31 mobo costs 70+ from any shop as "new". I hate my country.

Hell yeah they are worth it . a lot of stuff on my rig is used (Motherboard , Storage, graphics card, RAM) and even if i dont have a warranty on the used parts, they are still worth it.

 

always nice to snag a bargain from someone upgrading, i think i got my X79 board from someone upgrading to X99 or getting a more high up X79 board, and i got my ram from someone who was upgrading to X99 (aka upgrading to DDR4). and my GPU is today a pretty rare find, (good luck trying to find a 6gb 7970ghz nowadays)

It really doesn't. Whats your angle on this? Worth in what sense?

In money? Everything is worth it if price is right. I got spare mobo after bricking first one for 60% of retail price. And that one has warranty still on for another year. I'm also looking for GPU that would be close to those sold at 25€ for nearly half price.

The risks? Every piece has risk of breaking. If you get used with warranty, its initially same as getting open box from retail store. Without warranty, well, you check that price is right and make sure part works.

Time? True, you have it easier to go in store and pick something up. Rather than going to meet someone or comparing between several offers and making decisions like that. For me if two first are alright, I don't mind. My purchase philosophy already is to do wide research before purchase.

I think , it's worth it . I got a 3770k and wifi/bluetooth card for the price of an i5 4590 .

I would say it really depends.

Like, not even from type of build/situation to the other, I think it can heavily vary even from part to part.

If you want a good budget build, I recommend getting something already put together and working, because figuring out if your LGA775 board accepts your CPU is damn neer impossible. Either that or get an APU and add a GPU later if the APU's graphics erent enough.

If you're just upgrading, go ahead and get new or used.

Avoid used power supplies, storage and water cooling.

Go ahead and take free ones, but I wouldn't trust them for too long.

I bought my fx9370 and GA990FXA used from a friend, they're working great.

(it's just my goddamned OS won't install... >¬>)

If I know I can trust the seller then I am fine with buying pretty much anything used computer wise, but if I am not sure about the seller then the price has to be really good and even then I don't know if I would buy used.
