So the R9 380 4GB is just a rebrand?

Mobilizer

I was at first looking to buy the PowerColor R9 380 4GB PCS+ when I started watching these reviews about it stating it was a rebrand of the R9 285...

Is this true? There is no actual performance gain with the R9 380? :(

Only performance gain is through drivers.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

I think it's using the M295x core

Yeah, it's the same graphics core as the R9 285.

But, there are no 4GB versions of the 285 and there are 4GB versions of the 380.

No it isn't.

The m295x is a fully unlocked tonga core aka what the 380x is proposed to be.

The 380 is exactly identical to the 285 except with a different vram size.

its a rebrand

a rebrand is just slapping a new sticker with different numbers on it. These are refreshes, with updated pcb's, better ram ,and the like.

pcb? are you kidding me?

a refresh would be r9 285v2 4gb or something.not making it into the 'new' 3xx series

That's exactly what it is - an improved R9 285. You're contradicting yourself.

You can't find a 4GB 285 anywhere in the world. The 380 4GB is a refresh of the 285. Sometimes cheaper as well.

even if it is an improved 285 altough its not,its the same exact gpu,it doesn`t belong in a whole new series. that makes it a rebrand.

You're going out of your way to hate on the 380 I see. Oh well, no sense in arguing with people who don't see reason.

no man i`m just stating facts. 7970 GHZ edition was something that you can call a refresh. same hd 7xxx series. r9 280x was a rebrand of that card.

even at nvidia the gtx 770 was a rebrand of the 680.

Wait wait wait, a card with a new PCB, better and more memory and superior cooling is a rebrand howerver a copy-pasta card with 1GHz core clock is a refresh!? what are you smoking exactly?

The 380 is a 285 refresh, as it has different PCB and more vram

Im not going to get caught up with the semantical arguments but the only thing that creates a difference between the R9 285 and the R9 380 is higher clock rates on the core and possibly on the memory. The 380 is also capable of a 4GB frame buffer and the 285 had no such models.

CPU: Intel Core i3 4370 (3.8GHz, 2C/4T) GPU: AMD R9 380X 4GB
