Xiaomi Mi5 rumored to only cost $320

asim1999

It will clearly be the worlds most powerful phone when it launches, so i am surprised and hopeful about that cheap price:

The Xiaomi Mi 4 packed a nice surprise when it launched last summer - its full retail price was about $320 for the 16 GB model, and $400 for the 64GB version. This, of course, was the MSRP for China, while in the rest of the world it went for a bit more, but the handset was still one of the most affordable with these specs at the time, and coming from a reputable brand at that.

Now, a new rumor has emerged, stating that its Mi 5 successor will launch with the same pricing scheme as the Mi 4, meaning that the base model with the least amount of internal storage should go for a tad above $300. Given the speculation that Xiaomi is contemplating either a Snapdragon 820, or a Helio X20 chipset, depending on availability by the time the phone is supposed to be unveiled, we might be looking at one of the most affordable phones with such specs on the market.

As for the rest of the specs, the only things that have trickled down the rumor creek are a metal chassis, 4 GB RAM, 16 MP rear camera, and Qualcomm's 3D Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. None of these is confirmed by anything more than speculation at this point, though, so, Xiaomi, don't leave us stewing here for too long, okay? As for the actual announcement, given Xiaomi's penchant for an 18 months upgrade schedule, we wouldn't hold our breath for anything before December, or early next year, when Snapdragon 820 should be available, too.

This + opened kernel source means we can finally have a a xiaomi phone with custom ROMs instead of stupid MIUI.

Only issue is getting the fingerprint to work.

I love the Xaomi build quality and design for the price they are selling. Have their headphones and action camera. If this rumor is true, they are going on a good path for more customers

Too bad I can't use their phones don't work in Canada. The gf wanted to buy one, but no dice. At that price I think they'll easily defeat the OP2, though I think they use the same marketing strategy with "batch releases".

Hopefully that dies quickly. It needs to go the same way as the preorder.

Uhm, I found MIUI better than 90% of Android ROMs out there. Also, all the things that I want built in or have to download, MIUI has them built into the system...

You can stick with your keyloggers and backdoors, I never want to use a Chinese operating system, not to mention they are always running a really outdated version of android

It will clearly be the worlds most powerful phone when it launches, so i am surprised and hopeful about that cheap price:

It having a Snapdragon 820 doesn't mean it will be the worlds most powerful phone. Not even close. Based on Geekbench, Exynos Moongose will run laps around it, as well as A9 in single-core applications.

All manufacturer ROMs. Cyanogen and a few self made roms. :)

I was interested in the Mi4 when it came out but it doesn't operate on the same band as T-Mobile's LTE so that was a no-go for me. Will this one be any different?

If it has the SD820, it should operate on all bands

Ok, two things.

1) Even google devices aren't running 6.0. KitKat or 4.4.4 is perfectly stable and usable, with great RAM management, however, I'd rather run 4.4.4 stable than 5.0 unstable, just like most manufacturers updated to a shitty 5.0 as fast as possible and then users started bitching for a fix and waited for months (pointing fingers at Sony and Samsung and I'm sure LG screwed up too, since they are experts at it).

2) Latest MIUI is across ALL Xiaomi devices, doesn't matter if it's 4.4 or 5.0 or whatever it is, MIUI looks exactly the same as it does on the latest phones. Don't believe me? Want a screenshot that it is on the latest MIUI? It's just 4.4 underneath it. That's how Xiaomi works. :)

I'd rather have a stable working phone than a bugged up update that's all over the place. Which is why, to some extent. people hate Android and I completely understand it, it's annoying when your phone bugs and freezes and you can't even roll back properly. :)

Looking the same does not simply mean they are the same, there is a great deal of things going on under the surface. The same means that they're trying to be visually consistent.

Wanna hang out with me and people like @Theslsamg, @ Ssoele, @BENTHEREN, @Lanoi, @Whiskers, @_ASSASSIN_, @Looney, @WunderWuffle, and @nsyedhasan. Well.... Check out: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/48484-unofficial-linustechtips-teamschnitzel-server-teamspeak/

I completely agree. They are visually the same, which is important for their users and for the OS to feel fresh. However, under the hood, it should not be the same... But the same functions are there, which is important. :)

My friends and I are running 6.0 on my nexus 9 and their Nexus 7 2013. It's called being able to use google's wonderful resources of pre-compiled factory images.

Not to mention, MIUI will get all the bugs of lollipop regardless if it "looks" like the 4.4.4 version.
