Microsoft Surface Book announced at Microsoft 2015 Hardware Event - NVIDIA GPU, Lastest Intel Chips

Only the 15" rmbp has a dgpu. Not the 13" which is what the Surface Book is being compared with.

The 15" is actually in the same price range though (discussing flagships with dGPUs in them), so why even bother with the 13"?

I have. I get fuller, warmer bass, a strong middle range, and a light treble, just as it should be, and I actually get volume.

Go ahead and try. No laptop beats the current Macbook Pro Retina in sound.

Your not even trying are you, and what were the laptops you compared the MBPR to? For me there is the Dell XPS15 I502X, Asus U3N, Compaq Presario R3000. All 3 sound better-with the compaq having the best quality sound due to the nature of its speakers.

Hmm I will be keeping my eye on this, since I am on the lookout for new hardware not 100% convinced yet

I would go for SP4

If I ever get that kind of money, I'd still stick with the original Surface line. My Surface 3 is great, and the Surface Pro 4 looks fantastic. The Book is just too expensive and untested at this point. Maybe gen 2?

Yeah it's expensive as hell which is why I would get SP4.  Out of curiosity how does the surface 3 handle things? Cos i was looking at it in store and didn't feel that responsive/fluid. But that was the 2GB model I think. Also 128Gb is not enough storage!

The iPad pro is rekt if that table is anything to go by.

Yeah cos iPad pro has 4GB RAM and a 5w TDP.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Don't feed the troll! The Retina pro has an "OK" speaker. I've listened to one at full volume and it wasn't that load.

I'm just looking at what you get with the other slates for the same or a similar price. The iPad Pro makes no sense at all as Apple is sticking to their usual stuff with it instead of going all out and actually designing it for productivity.

Haven't tried the compaq, but I have tried the Dell and Asus you mentioned, haha to both copying apple's speaker design. MBPr was superior to both for jazz, big band, choir, and orchestral music easily.

Oh really. So your saying that that Dell-which is from 2011, is copying the speaker design from the MBPR? You know what? I've had enough of your....issues. And you do come off as a troll most of the time.

Because that's how you do comparison of 'Mobile' devices >size/form factor. If not, might as well just compare it to a desktop

Given Apple had that speaker design in 2009, yes.

Who cares about form factor if the functionality in the price range is piss poor?

It supports more Adobe stuff than normal iPad does. And it makes sense only to artists who would otherwise buy a Wacom companion which costs double that amount and runs windows.

Don't worry 920M isn't that bad and it probably is the only thing which could fit in that. It has a TDP of 20-25w i think.  It goes with their claim as 920M handles 3D modelling, photo editing and CAD. Battery life will be poor and gaming will be OK if it is 920M. It starts with a Core M3 (Core M equivalent of i3) with i5 and i7 options. And from what i found on their website the dGPU is optional (not included by default).

I'm pretty sure intel has faster igpus than the 920m is. And let's be honest, you're not going to do any decent gaming or computing on a 920m.

Linus should do a review on the surface book.

He should give it to one of the editors to replace their desktop for a month and see how it performs.

It's not a desktop replacement but something you can use on the go. I doubt it would even be useful with their work flow.

Battery life's about the same at 8 - 9 hours, older GPU was the 750M, resolution is still retina class. No one's beaten Apple's speakers on a laptop to date. I don't expect that to change with this shoddy Microsoft prototype that is very clearly copying the aluminum clamshell and even I/O port setup that Apple's been using for years.

As per the rest, true, but Apple has a very similar and equally cheap recovery option.

Umm I don't see where your going as even ID wise it's nothing like a MacBook. It's close to say the surface 2 with a newer style keyboard that makes it more laptop esk.

The 15" is actually in the same price range though (discussing flagships with dGPUs in them), so why even bother with the 13"?

A 15in laptop is no where near as portable as this, nor does it have as many of the capabilities.

A MacBook Pro is just a laptop where this is way more than that which is what makes it exciting and interesting.

Yeah but they're in the "Iris Pro" territory and not suitable for the TDP of the surface book. I know the GPU isn't too good (trust me my laptop has one).

The biggest thing is that there is no software... To be useful at all right out of the gate the iPad Pro would have had to run OSX.

Who cares about form factor if the functionality in the price range is piss poor?

Pricing seems about right to me. It's a unique product with next to no competition. The closest thing is literally their own surface.

I'm pretty sure intel has faster igpus than the 920m is. And let's be honest, you're not going to do any decent gaming or computing on a 920m.

There may be more powerful I GPU's but not in the TDP or form factor of this device? Also have a proper dedicated GPU opens up more doors for more api's the easiest to mention would be Cuda right out of the gate.

At the presentation which I watch last night, Microsoft said that it was not for gaming. They mentioned that League of Legends will work, but no details on game settings and fps performance.

Why would it be... Best use I could see is to stream from a desktop or maybe Xbox. I think Wendell has a video on this using a Surface Pro 3.

Not really, even the non-iris solutions are pretty close and the 920m is a kepler rebrand anyway. As for tdp, it would be better for them to just dissipate heat from the cpu than to make a separate cooling apparatus for a dedicated gpu that isn't really doing anything important.
