According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff worked at the Best Buy in question at the time. Back in 2011, she brought het computer in to the convenient Geek Squad desk to get a hard drive pronlem fixed. It wasn't until two years later that a co-worker told het that pictures of her were circulating freely online, including on public BitTorrent site The Pirate Bay.

Eh, like it's a good idea to leave personal nudes on a computer that's getting serviced in the first place. She should've taken them off or never had them on it in the first place (CD, Flashdrive, etc). While tech support companies are supposed to be all about consumer privacy, you can't trust people with nude pics, especially if they're of someone you care about.

Does anyone have those images? Just kidding but no seriously if anyone knows where they are message me.

You have to be an idiot to take pictures of yourself in the nude and then put them on your HDD and then to get some computer teky (who probably has never been laid) to repair your HDD. Just do what I do and use the "Cloud" because we all know thats safe.

Someone should get nude pics onto a computer and take it to best buy. Use a program that runs in the background and records how long the photos are viewed and if any copies are made. This would be hilarious. The pictures get opened at 1am and closed at 1am and 30seconds.

you know what'd be funny?

If the woman brought it to the same guy at bestbuy,he didn't recognize her,he looked for naked pictures, and he saw this.

I may be the only guy here that would set a full front picture as the background. Just to be an ass.

Well, you should really know better than to take pictures of yourself nude. Even if you are stupid enough to do that, you should know better than to put them on your PC.

The Geek squad obviously had no right to do what they have done, but sadly assholes like that exist, so don't leave nudes on your hard drive, or take them in the first place.

not sure if trolling or srs.

I'm an adult I'll take pictures of whatever I like in my own home thanks.

On topic, geek squad pays kids garbage wages and so they get garbage employees, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more.

I think most of the times people don't have a choice to take the pictures or videos off the PC before bringing them to be fix, I had seen a loooot of stuff in client's PCs, because they can't boot anymore so there's no way they take them out.  And they usually ask me to save that specific picture/video.  XD

Mystery is the source of all true science.

The issue here is bigger than a repair shop stealing or looking at personal porn. I don't doubt that it doesn't happen. In fact, I'd be surprised if it didn't, hidden suspicious porn folders are usually the go to place for viruses haha.

What I see as the problem is this will cause a ton of false accusations of people who find themselves online, and instantly point that it must have been from the person who repaired their computer. No one will ever think it could have been an EX, spouse, or not keeping your computer secure.

I know many people who use their landlords wifi, or public wifi without thinking about taking precautions. Effectively leaving their computer open to anyone from the network. Media sharing/streaming programs like to add videos and photos to the in app library for easy sharing/steaming.

If I repair someone's computer then later on videos or pictures of them get uploaded by some mysterious manner, I don't need fingers pointed in my direction nor do I want to be held liable. It would also be difficult to prove otherwise that it wasn't the repair shop which uploaded the content.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Users cannot, and will not securely manage key material. Most users can't and the ones that can, wont.

Ask me about Bitcoin, Litecoin, Crypto-Currencies, and/or Mining them.
