Just got the 980TI Lightning to test out....

Profoundsoup

That ASIC score though...

ASIC scores mean nothing for your average user tbh. You can have very good ASIC quality with a bad overclocker and vice versa.

I have tested 5 different 980TI cards and that statement is false. Atleast all I have tested the ASIC score determined how high of a stable OC I got.....

I know but when you pay that much for something (trying to think of an example but can't so I'll just walk away). The whole industry is broken! We must boycott!

It's actually kind of commo

I mean I bought this to see what all the hype was about with these "super uber amazing high end cards" but In reality this card is no matter than a normal MSI card but they are charging $150 for basically slightly more quite and cooler cooling...

The people with 72% seem to be hitting 1530-ish, people with 76 seem to be hitting 1550-ish, and one of the guys that bought an 80% was doing 1589 on water.

The one Jayztwocents got was 77% I believe, Kingpin tested it before sending it out to Jayz and it would do 1560 in unigine heaven no problem.  Jayz barely even got it past 1500 because he was using the wrong drivers LOL.

What I don't understand is why he didn't reach out to Vince about him having issues with OCing... I read that thread on the EVGA forums and saw that it was VINCE's idea to send it to Jay and that he never even requested to get a KPE. Especially if he was clueless as to why his 2nd one couldnt do any better than the first, first thing I would've done was ask Vince for some help. *sigh* This is why big tech youtubers shouldn't review cards like the KPE because they have to dumb everything down so everybody can understand....

The card is relatively new, could it be an issue with the bios?

It just seems odd you can't get any higher with such an expensive model.

Well at 60% asic rating from a $800 card MSI can go fuck themselves. I mean Guru3d didnt have very good luck either. They couldnt even get 1500. The memory can OC high as fuck tho lol. I might call MSI just to see if they fucked up or they tell me to go fuck myself.

Try out a Hall of Fame if you can't get a kpe cause you know, they run out of stock quick.

I highly recommend EVGA's Hybrid to replace it. My first watercooled card and I was absolutely blow away at how quiet and cool it runs, I've never seen it go past 55c and I can barely hear it running at full load. I got one with an ASIC score of 62.8% and currently I have the OC set to 1475mhz/8000 at 1.243v.  :)

I had one but it acted weird and had coil wine. Might go back and try it again. Either that or the Kingpin

How do they compare? I havent heard anything about the HOF 980TI also the Kingpin has been in stock on newegg for like a week lol

I say go for it again, mine has been running perfect with no problems at all!

As for the HOF Ti tbh its not that great, people have had numerous issues with it over on the owners thread on OCN and its a pretty meh overclocker not to mention you cannot buy on any site other than the Galax webstore which ships direct from Hong Kong. Only the LN2 GOC edition is worth any kind of consideration since it comes with Samsung memory and power unlock. Unfortunately its crazy overpriced at 1K$. Anyway in the end if I was you it would be either Hybrid or KPE.

I'm running my HoF fine. It's rock solid for $750 (8-pack edition) and running 1550mhz on air. Check this thread.

Uninstall your GPU drivers fully w/ DDU and sweep the registry and try to use 353.62, that may help your max OC on the Lightning.

A lot of people on OCN were having lots of issues with the new drivers and Kingpin + a few other pro overclockers have been recommending people to go back to 353.62

You gonna try for RMA with complaints about the extreme coil whine?

If SLI is having problems, go back to 353.62 drivers after doing a driver sweep.  It should allow you to run both of them at close to their individual max clocks.

I've been telling anyone considering Lightnings to go after KP, you're basically guaranteed 1520+, I have yet to see anyone that bought one on OCN owners club that couldn't hit 1520+

Jayztwocentz couldnt get over 1525. Though I suppose its possible he got a bad lottery card. Granted 1525 is still above 1520.
