Project: Tighter Than a Virgin

No Quarter
The main purpose was to see how a build would do with all used parts.  I learned that mITX can lick my balls from here on out though.  This is a big case for that size motherboard, but never again for something like this.

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($327.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VII IMPACT Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($218.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Storage: Crucial M500 960GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($334.95 @ Amazon)

Storage: Crucial M500 960GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($334.95 @ Amazon)

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Hybrid Video Card  ($604.99 @ Amazon)

Total: $2097.74

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Corsair K70 with front print keycaps

Venus MMO Mouse (switching to the Roccat Nyth)

Dell U2715H

I actually put this whole build together for just under a grand (granted, gathering the parts took months just buying crap when insane deals hit), the 980 came from jayztwocents used on hardforums, I got the processor/motherboard/ram/psu from microcenter for about half of the list prices, and the 2 ssd are from the refurbish deal crucial ran about a month ago.  The H100i/peripherals/screen are all reused from ditched builds.  The only thing that I paid full price on was the case.

The i7 is relaxing at 4.7GHz and the 980 is barely hitting 50 degrees at 1600MHz

Very nice, I'm actually doing something similar at the moment, however my budget is much smaller and my build idea is in a different direction.

Did the 'under a grand' include that monitor and peripherals?

It'd be sweet if you broke it down a little more with what you paid.

it has next to no airflow, with the side panels off I can get it to 4.9 at 1.28, but with the panel on I dialed it back, there a extremely small holes for the h100i to draw air in through.  At some point I plan to dremel it and steal the top off my define r4 to tack on for better airflow

Awesome job man, smart buying choices like that are always worth it.

Just because you can overclock something further doesn't mean you should. If you don't need that extra power all you are doing is putting out more heat into whatever room you are in.

I paid maybe $30 for the mouse, $50 for the keyboard (can't remember the keycaps), and $440 for the monitor, I've had them for a while though and they didn't count into the cost

Nice, still a very solid build!

I'm at about $380 so far and have 2 new P2214H's, an i3 4150, Asus Z87-C, and BitFenix Comrade.

Still need a lot though. R9 280, 240GB SSD, 16GB RAM...oy.

I went out on a limb buying it all used.  I checked overclock/hardforums/evga/etc daily and negotiated like a mad man, but the savings is real

R9 NANO is life. Might get one just cause I can :P

I truly see no problem with it.

When I get the money. Which could be soon. Imma make a build and say CAN YOUR 980TI FIT IN THIS?

The R9 Nano costs the same as the 980 Ti and performs as well as / worse than a 980 in most cases. PLUS everyone who has one has been experiencing major coil whine. It's so simple, The 980 Ti performs FAR better than the Nano and costs the same- why bother getting it? There are a plethora of small cases that can fit most graphics cards under 10.5 inches long, there's no reason to build a PC so small that you're over spending on a card that doesn't deliver.

Also if I were to be building a Mini ITX PC at that price point and I wanted something smallish (The case you choose is still pretty largish) I would've gone with this up above. Lost of performance, speed, cooling, and storage!

Yes, considering I built in the Elite 110 it's not as small as it seems, you're better off stepping up to a slightly larger case and getting the 980ti. The Nano is a terrible decision no matter what way you spin it. It makes absolutely no sense to buy it, unless and I'm assuming you're not limited in space to a 5x5 room and you need a case to take up as little space as possible.
