More than 100,000 people are eager to make themselves at home on another planet. They've applied for a one-way trip to Mars, hoping to be chosen to spend the rest of their lives on uncharted territory, according to an organization planning the manned missions.

The Mars One project wants to colonize the red planet, beginning in 2022. There are financial and practical questions about this venture that haven't been clarified. Will there be enough money? Will people really be able to survive on Mars? But these haven't stopped some 30,000 Americans from signing up.

If I was dieing and was going to die soon, yes.

I think I read somewhere that it would take about 8 months or so to travel to Mars.  So allow for the travel time before you croak. :)

Well, you'd probably die instantly, so not at the moment.

 

I think the point is to make them survive and live on Mars. Not have them crash land onto it with no help.

If I could, I would want to die in a black hole.  This would be, of course, near the end of my lifetime.  But if I got my choice, I would love to see (for a very short period of time) what it would be like to be within the event horizon.

 

To be more direct to the OP, the same thing applies.  If I had 6 months to live (presuming I could get to Mars within that time-frame, which is not likely), I'd probably do it too.

Not instantly. You would suffocate because of lack of oxygen. Suffocation takes some time to kill a living organism. With this mission, you'll be wearing space suits and have inflatable "homes" to stay in. Currently, Mars is too cold for any multi-cellular life. This organization has plans to pollute Mars with machines(through Mars' materials) to cause it to withhold heat and heat up, so it can be fit for multi-cellular life. It will be a requirement if humanity is to survive(assuming we don't destroy ourselves) because the Sun will eventually start to die and get hotter, causing Earth to become uninhabitable, and shifting the "habitable zone" to Mars.

i say for the test dummies that would die I say we send all the swag fags and tell them mars has oxygen and well then my generation may have a chance if we send enough but if all of the kinks of getting there and not dying were fixed and they had wifi then hell yeah id love to go
