Https ever coming to LTT?

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

It's secured when you log in. Otherwise, it's unencrypted.

I just read an article about how dangerous it is to login to non https websites, and i wonder, is LTT ever going to get https secured, or is it going to stay non secured, like 4chan and other forums?

I have heard some people ask it in Forum Features and Suggestions, but not sure what the mods (mainly @colonel_mortis) has said in response

The connection used to be encrypted everywhere on the forum but it was too hard on the server and thus it is now only used when logging in.

its not that you *really* need an encrypted connection on a forum either way, everything you put on here is publicly accessible. (aside from PMs and such offcourse)

on this site all logins and the checkout in the store is using HTTPS, nothing else needs it it will just slow the site down.

SSL is used to encrypt private things such as login details, and payment info, which is why only logins and checkout use ssl.  No point encrypting a message saying you are looking for new speakers.

The login form, as well as the checkout if you buy anything, is encrypted, but other than that the site defaults to HTTP. If you manually access https://linu..., it will work, but the forum software then still gives you HTTP links for some unknown reason. When we update to the next version of the forum software, IPS4, at some point next year, the links will correctly point to HTTPS if you're currently browsing over HTTPS.

We don't use HTTPS everywhere at the moment because it causes loads of other issues, though hopefully in IPS4 they will have been fixed.

HTTP/2 203

yea as long as login details are secured, and account information is encrypted there's nothing really else that would need to be secured. No one should have monetary information linked here, none of the forums are crazy secret, its all a pretty open community.
