Installing Windows 10 On New SSD

Hello LTT Forums!, so I'm thinking of getting a ssd for my system and doing a fresh install of windows on there. But I have already upgraded to windows 10 on this hard drive, how would I go about installing to the new ssd? Would I need to buy a new key or can I just use the one I currently have, I'm sort of confused on how I should be doing this and some help would be appreciated, thanks!

By the looks of it it's all account based. You can install your copy of Windows 10 onto your brand spanking new SSD without issue.

For your information, It's not account based.

You don't even have to put the Microsoft account to activate.

You can do it without Microsoft Account.

You just skip the key parts when it asks.

Then it'll automatically activate when the OS installed.

either call Microsoft or just install win 7/8 and upgrade it again.

@kameshss

when you fresh install on an SSD, it will ask for activation again. aparently SSDs and mobo change can mess up the current activation.

Well in any case, the recipient can install the OS on his new SSD without having to worry about activation shenanigans.

HDD or SSD are not tied up with activation parts.

Only the motherboard.

I confirmed this with Microsoft.

Did it many times, Worked flawlessly.

Well, the thing is you don'y have to use the Windows 10 product key by so hardly extracting from a TP s/w.

It's just skip couple of times. That's it. If you've already got activated before by upgrading to Windows 10, It'll activate next time when you perform fresh Installation.

No matter what drive you use, it's either a HDD or SSD. Anything. It'll activate.
