JUST PICK THE LIGHTER OPTION M8

17 is too big to carry around campus IMO. You'll get tired of lugging it around everywhere. I'd go for a 14"-15". And with a budget of $3000, you can get pretty much any gaming laptop. I'd go with the slim ones, for the sake of portability. The Razer Blade, MSI GS series, Gigabyte' Aorus line, etc.

Yeah I'd go with the 15" like others said.

Razer Blade 2014 14' - 1.8 inch height, more powerful than a lot of other notebooks, keeps itself cool and looks awesome as hell.

15" for practicability, 17" to gain muscles.

It depends on whether you want a "desktop replacement" style laptop that just sits on your desk at home or in the dorm, or do you want something to take to class and use on campus? 17" for home, a thinner, lighter 15" for taking on campus. I would personally shoot for a 13" or 14" if I was taking a laptop to class. But I'm old school and only use pen and paper. Forget about gaming performance if you want the later. Go for something with good battery life and a good keyboard.

I have own a 17in Laptop that was made out of aluminium with two HDD drive installed in it....and although I never brought it onto campus often, it was a pain to carry around in Manhattan when I interned at a Graphics Design office for three months....

But I do carry a 15in laptop to campus now and its a pain to carry as well, not as bad as my 17in one, but still pretty bad when I have shoulder pains.

The Clevo P650SG is good. If you wait a little while more, they would come with Skylake and G-Sync.

EDIT: I found out the name of the Skylake variant. It is the P650RG.

I couldn't even find a decent backpack for my GS70, it was just too big to be practical at school. do yourself a favor and go with a 15" or even 14"
