LINUS, STOP USING XSplit!

In all honesty I am sure that every WAN show isn't broken, but every one is falling apart when I see it.

 

Why don't you use OBS?  Or even ASUS Streamer?

 

There are better tools that you don't have to pay for and OBS is even open source.  Don't like something?  Change it!

I have no experience with streaming software, but I'm guessing that xsplit would be a more polished experience since it is subscription based...

i really like the extra options in xsplit that isnt in OBS :/

 

so i can imagine that Linus will probably find those useful too

you can but XSplit for me looks a bit more simple to use and overall easier. OBS is a learning curve, and with something like the WAN Show which doesn't get them their main revenue, they probably want something easy.

He has already addressed this on several occasions. He doesn't like OBS and prefers XSplit. It is his decision.

xsplit is good but i agree it gets annoying when there always late or they always have problems

He just got a lifetime XSplit account or something. I don't think he'll move to another service anytime soon

Probably could be solved by open source plugins...

 

When I used XSplit it seemed really simple and easy, but they also make you pay to use any decent features... OBS also has many more options and plugins. AFAIK they only use XSplit because they're a sponsor. You aren't likely to get sponsored by makers of an open-source program haha

well i find it easier to have the options to be there than to spend days looking for good plugins

Actually I strongly suspect the issue isn't xsplit but the capture cards: he needs to stop using a separate laptop from the streaming rig and just use a really strong PC to both stream and screen capture the articles and stuff he needs to share. It has less points of failure that way anyway.

You can't really say it "works" for him when it just never....ever....works. Week after week, not a single show goes up without a hitch they're always late or always get disconnected, intro or scenes don't work, screen sharing craps out or doesn't works, bringing hosts is not done as often but when they do it's always with issues, etc.

 

Now I'm not saying this is all on xsplit, other issues happen to but you can say it works for him since well, it just doesn't. There's no reason for the show to be this unreliable as I said many people stream daily and have next to no issues even when switching the games and scenes and such.

OBS also has a good amount of loss when it comes to quality.

OBS is trash compared to Xsplit. Use both and see

OBS is trash compared to Xsplit. Use both and see

 

Nonsense: it's stable, it has enough features for what the WAN show does and it wouldn't even require that many scenes, yes the quality is not as good but we're talking streaming most of the live viewers won't get any kind of good quality due to Twitch compression and degradation anyway and well it's a show with 2 talking heads and a few crappy screen shares: not exactly a high demand for like ultra high quality unlike his videos that do include lots of b-roll and such.

 

All that aside as I said I really don't think xsplit is (the main) issue here, pretty sure is the crap capture cards (i.e. they're all crap not the specific ones he used before) particularly for a live environment.
