Why are the fps so low in those test. I have an i7 4790k and gtx 970. Im using 3dmark firestrike

They heavily stress your hardware with physics

Physics are demanding and costly

physics test is reliant mainly on CPU while combined test relies on both CPU and GPU

This is my score with i5 4690k at 4.5Ghz and Only the 1x 780 is running in here but its overclocked.

(i7 4790k should get around 10k to 11k CPU score when at 4.5Ghz)

This is with both 780's

Looks like my old machine is not far behind even compared whit newer machines. My pc is powered by and old I7 920 @ 4,3 GHz cpu and a pair of GTX 970 in sli.,

Single card run whit CPU at 4,1 GHz and Windows 7 ultimate + oc GFX. But back when it scores 10523. would be higher now whit win 10 and higher clock on CPU and GPU.

Whit 2 cards and higher clocks on them together whit CPU at 4,3 GHz and this time windows 10 64 PRO it hits 16384

Thanks. Intels first gen I7 X58 CPU´s is some very nice overclock CPU´s special if you have the DO revision i have. Most i7 920 whit DO is good for 4 GHz on aircooling my cpu is prof of that, Just as long you dont use a crappy cheap CPU cooler. This CPU´s makes som heat that needs to be hold in place.

Here are som screenshots of my system for a more detailed settings needed for hitting these scores.

I7 4790K is known for they can run hot but it also depend on what CPU cooler you use and your airflow in your case. 65C is no problem for a CPU.

My own I7 920 has throttle point at about 85-90C. Means that about that temp it clock it self down to prevent permanent damage. I keep my CPU at max 70C and it has been OC now for about 3 years and it is still going strong. This CPU just refuse to die and it is in total over 6 years old now. Got it may 2009.

Hold your CPU at max 70C and it will last you a long time even when overclokket.

Bad case airflow is not helping on temp on CPU or GPU for that matter. For good airflow it is a good idea to have intake as well as exhaust fans, keep the pc free of dust and off cause dont have a ton of wire in the way of the fans cause that kills also airflow.
