Intelligent music thread!

TheMail

The Dark Side of the Moon album is incredible. A lot of underlying meaning in it. Love The Wall too.

Yes, they are some of the best albums ever.

This thread is also missing some artists like:

The Beatles (only some of their songs, includes John Lennons solo songs)

Nirvana (especially MTV Unplugged in New York)

The Doors (The End, People are strange,...)

I don't quite see how the MTV Unplugged version is more intelligent than a regular one  :P

I personally really like this song right now, it is not because the artiest but the meaning of the song. I personally am not a fan of this group but never thought they would make a song like this. Facts are facts and this song nails all of it.Also this song is not disrespecting god. at least I don't take it that way, it is about how bad things happen to people in this world and we don't know why it does.

I think order to call some music more intelligent than other music there has to be an element of pretentiousness involved. Whether a piece of music has Deep lyrics with complex significance is totally subjective as is all taste in music.

Its like when people classify certain music as good and other music as bad. There is no such thing as good music it is all totally subjective. I really enjoy Steve Vai but some people might say that its just some guy making loud noises with a guitar.

Also I pick most of my music based on what I enjoy listening to and care very little about any message it is sending, does that mean that I listen to music un-intelligently... ?

Ahh... Finally a thread where I can act pretentious with a lot of other pretentious people.

I really like this song called "

". It's a song about what happiness really is, also contains some metaphors that ties in to the Bible (angels and such), as well as being young. It's not in English though so you have to watch the video and/or understand the language they sing in to get the symbolism.

I also like this song called "

". It's about how women sometimes are oppressed, expected to be a certain way and how men acts towards them. I am not one of those pseudo-feminists who think porn is oppressing or anything like that, but this song (the style is similar to folk music by the way) really speaks to me.

if you want a deep and meaningful song then I highly recommend "

". Very calm and relaxing song about love. It's sung in French but I think you can appreciate it even if you can't speak French, if you can you will like the song even more though. If you listen to the song for at least 3 minutes you will probably start to understand it, even if you don't understand the language. The singers convey a lot of emotion in the way they sing. Beautiful song.

There's a Norwegian band called "Staal" which has a song called "Eg er Gud" (meaning "I am God"). The song has a critical view on christianity, or rather the way god is said to work. They mostly point out the double standards and totalitarian nature.

The song in itself is pretty blunt, you won't have to give it much thought to get what they're saying, and it's not like they offer some amazing new smart arguments in the debate. But they have collected some pretty solid arguments which cannot be dismissed by "differences in interpretation" and evils which has taken been done in gods name within the church. And the way they have worded the song and fitted the lyrics all together nicely so that it doesn't feel forced in any place is very good. So content vice, it isn't that original, but the execution is clever.

This song just came out a week ago, now if any of you know who Tech N9ne is then you might like this song. A short story for you guys. I have lived in the Midwest almost my whole life, I moved to Florida 7 years ago When living in Kansas I went to a Music store in Lawrence Kansas when I was 17 and Tech N9ne was there signing albums, now remind you I am 31 now so back then he was not a known artist around the world, he was just a local artiest that only if you lived in the Midwest, knew who he was. I got to hang out with him for about 4 hours and , this dude is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met :)
