I wouldnt, depends on the scenario and game being played, but I dont think many games take advantage of a PhysX card, especially when youre using a card like the 980, but it depends.

Just playing with the thought here. Would I benefit anything at all here?

I have a 980 and a 1440p monitor. Would I gain any benefit by buying a 750TI as a PhysX card? I barely even know what PhysX is.

Well, you cant SLI them, and you probably wont see any benefit using the 750ti as a PhysX card, the 980 is powerful enough.

No you wouldn't gain any benefit at all. Nvidia developed the software to do that back when Physx actually took a lot of graphical power. Nvidia cards these days will literally see zero performance impact when running Physx. Linus has made atleast one video about this, if not two videos. Don't have time to go look for them though, sorry.

No, you would infact lose performance in games that use physx. Even SLI'ing 750ti's to be dual phsyx cards would damaged your performance.

The 980 is just too fast, if a lot of physx calculations came in then the 750ti would bottleneck the FUCK outta the 980.

I barely even know what PhysX is.

Maybe you should do some research into it before making any buying decisions...

even if it did help, there are only a handful of games that use PhysX anyway, and in those the dedicated card might not help much, so its pretty much  a waste of money

It depends. I mean, it would take load off of your 980, that's for sure.

It'll make a difference that's for sure.

You can't SLI two different cards, if I understood your question correctly :)

the 980 is just too fast to see an improvement from a 750ti physx card

If you're planning on using something for JUST Phys X then I'd suggest looking for a used GTX 650 or a 9800 GT.

I wouldn't waste money on a 750ti,

physx isn't used all that much, and it isn't worth 150$ imo

Dont buy the 750 ti

instead with the money you have for the 750ti and the money you get if you sell the 980,buy the 980 ti

As I said, just playing with the thought.

What do you guys think about getting another 980 and run them in SLI?

I won't buy the card and most certainly not before doing any research. (I consider asking the original question one form of research btw).

In normal sli? Perfectly reasonable.

Running another one as a dedi physx card, bad idea. Complete waste of money as you'd see only an increase of 1-5% performance.

I have a GTX 980, and it's more than enough for 1080p/1440p gaming :) Top that off with SLI and you got a pretty slick set up.

Might buy one in the distant future then.

Mine seems a little behind on 1440p. Might get another one :)

SLI 980s are very powerful and can improve game performance (though SLI is not without drawbacks, micro stuttering, heat, games with no SLI support etc)

I won't buy the card and most certainly not before doing any research. (I consider asking the original question one form of research btw).

I know its research :D I just meant you should read up on PhysX, how it effects games and what games utilize it etc

its all good man  :)  I'm upgrading to a 980 ti cause I found a decent deal.  I feel like that is better due to "lacking SLI support" that I always hear about (i've never SLI'd so I dont personally know)  and then you can always SLI the 980ti later on when support is maybe better.

It can hurt overall performance: https://youtu.be/cbww3dhzK0M
It can help and be worth it: https://youtu.be/PQu55bciMt4

Those are not current cards but the power relationships between them are in the same ballpark as 980&750Ti. Would love to see an actual test on new cards.
In any case, Physx deals with the simulated physics like falling and bouncing objects, breaking surroundings, liquids splashing and sloshing, snows falling, clothes moving and so on. It's how they move, not how they look.

Would G-sync help with micro stuttering?

Maybe I should do that then!

The 980 can handle PhysX perfectly alone. There is no need for another Card.
