This is the link to the new build log.

I am going to be heavily modding the case, water cooling the system, gold plating parts and doing a custom paint job. Color theme is Black, Grey and Gold. I am aiming for a super quite fast system with a fairly good overclock for gaming and streaming mainly as well as some video editing and rendering.

I am looking for a smaller lighter build because I often go to LAN's and my old Cooler Master Cosmos two was too big heavy and awkward.

Nice, will the new processors be on the same socket?

No I'm choosing between LGA 2011-3 or LGA 1151. My old systems where LGA 1150 and 2011.

Here are some case mods that I have started planing. I'm not sure where I'm meant to post these I guess as a coment.

Front internal panel

post-43128-0-77528300-1437548473_thumb.j

The plan is to mount a 360mm alpha cool radiator on the front panel as marked above.

post-43128-0-59256500-1437548625_thumb.j

This will mean that these tabs need to be cut off and a piece of aluminium/steel welded to the flat surface.

post-43128-0-42985100-1437549382_thumb.j
This is the front panel dust filter and it will need to be expanded to allow for the 360 radiator to breath.

post-43128-0-89355300-1437549483_thumb.j
Here are the push pins that are currently holding the front fan filter to the front panel they will need to be replaced and relocated because they are in the path of where the radiator sits.

Front panel Exterior
post-43128-0-45028600-1437549548_thumb.j
Front Panel has a hole that needs to be filled it is 3mm aluminium. It needs to be flush with the outside surface.

Side/back panel exterior panel
post-43128-0-98257900-1437549641_thumb.j
More holes to be filled

Rear panel
post-43128-0-09026000-1437549796_thumb.j
I need to make a cover panel to cover the area shown here and needs to be welded to the back panel.

post-43128-0-62181400-1437549959_thumb.j
Here is a quick one I made up out of acrylic to show you what I meant.

Top internal panel

post-43128-0-95352400-1437550284_thumb.j

This panel feels abit thin and weak even when it was in case with rad and fans attached needs some reinforcements to strengthen. Weld a sheet to the back of this panel with the needed cut outs.

Mid section

post-43128-0-23510000-1437550579_thumb.j

Weld a cover plat to this cover panel. it's just to cover up for neatness just to clean up the aesthetics.

Motherboard tray

Cover panel to cover the motherboard tray next to the motherboard with small space or cut outs for GPU and 24 pin cables,

post-43128-0-81592900-1437554376_thumb.j

This part may need to be extended somehow to reach the inner front panel because of previous mods to the front panel.

Side panel with window
post-43128-0-70413500-1437554484_thumb.j

This is just a simple window expatiation so you can see the whole inside.
Just what is in the planing for now I will keep you all posted, loved reading all your coments.

The Asus x99m ws micro atx M.2 port may be a deal breaker which would be a real shame as apart from this it was the perfect motherboard.

I need it to be a M.2 PCIE-3 4x slot not this. Putting an intel 750 series is this would almost be a waste.

post-43128-0-91809200-1437725725_thumb.p

Any suggestion, should I just wait for skylake and get the 6700k and Asus Gene (If it has the right M.2 port)?

Could just go with the PCIe version of the 750?

Should be an interesting build, black/grey and gold is one of my favourite colour combos. Not so hot on the Apogee but that's personal preference.

Yeah i have considered this and it's probably the best bet  it's just i wanted to be able to run sli in the future.

pretty sure it was personal preference, I don't like the look of it much either, but in the right build it could look nice.

  • 2 weeks later...

Okay so I'm having a hard time trying to decide what to go with for the GPU. The options are: GTX 980 ti, 2x GTX 980 sli, or 2x GTX 980 ti. I know sli doesn't scale that well and micro stutter and so on, but I have always wanted to own an sli setup, it just looks so good and I think this could be my chance.

I'd say 2 980tis if possible, 1 if you can wait until you have the funds for a second.

Hey from Byron Bay, cool stuff. I used to live there :)

Good luck with the build, I have a build also, and wondering about 6700k because it only has 16 PCI-E lanes... but I came to the conclusion at least you can upgrade CPU later and still be on the right socket for 130w TDP Skylake refresh CPU's
