Hey guys. I am experiencing crazy RAM usage from the NT Kernel & System process. I don't know how I can get it down. My PC is only a week old. I can't figure out why it's sky high like this. Here is a screenshot.

I originally had 8 but one of the sticks went bad so I have to grab another kit. I have 4GB of RAM right now.

My coworker said the same thing. That's crazy. So is it just sitting things to retrieve for later? I'm still going to run the virus scan too though.

its an operating system...

all operating systems use ram...

you cannot have an OS running without it using ram

windows usually uses a few GB, not sure why yours is only 600MB

if you are really at 88% of your 4GB then theres probably something else using more ram

because 600/4000 is not 88%

That looks like windows 10. Windows 10 is not released yet, so, it could literally be anything at this point. 500 is not terribly much, though, and a system will scale its idle usage based on how much ram you have. So a 2GB system will use a couple hundred MB, 4GB more, 6, 12, etc.

My 16GB system uses about 1-2GB idle. But my 2GB system uses less than 500mb

Yeah, it is windows 10. This could be the culprit.

Probably not a virus or Windows 10 related.

It seems like a driver problem from first inspection or a hard pagefault. You could find out by checking the number of interrupts using something like LatencyMon or Xperf.

#1: IF you did NOT use your system for lets say a month or 2 this is normal since its gonna want to update windows (i know from experience , i didnt use my laptop for a year and when i did use it it was unusable for 6h due to 187 updates it was trying to download , run , bla bla bla)

#2: Virus , Malware etc. Make sure you run a full system sweep with an anti virus

#3: Get more ram

#4: if you literally have a system with a max ram of 2gb...time to upgrade my friend :)

you've got 10 google chrome tasks running i see. Try ending all the chrome tasks. Web browsers chew up ram. If thats not the problem then idk but something is deffanatly happening behind the scenes.

Maybe don't use chrome that thing eats up ram like no tomorow.

I tried. I a boot with no start up programs after 10 minutes NT Kernel and System still mercing the RAM stick.
