Based on the second-generation AMD Graphics Core Next (GCN) GPU architecture and gpu is able to deliver up to 5.24 TFLOPS of peak single precision compute performance while enabling full throughput double precision performance, up to 2.62 TFLOPS of peak double precision performance.

The FirePro S9170 is touted to deliver up to 40 percent more performance than the "competitive solution" while using 10 percent less power.

No HBM memory here, instead, 32GB GDDR5 is used. The card is passive cooled and requires an airflow of 20 cubic meters per minute – which any current server setup should deliver. Users shouldn’t experience any thermal restrictions or throttling if cooled according to specifications.

Passive cooling? It doesn't get that hot then?

It's not really passive it needs airflow on the server case:

The card is passive cooled and requires an airflow of 20 cubic meters per minute

Actually yeah, not really passive but I suppose it's considered that since it doesn't have a cooler.

That's a lot of air to cool the thing ...

It is a hawaii core I believe (Or Grenada as their call the "refresh" now) so yeah fairly hot, however most servers don't care about noise levels so this much air passing through it's fine

Where are all the heat being dumped ?

It's being blown/pulled out of the server by individual AC units.

I can't wait until we start seeing tiny Quadros and Firepros once HBM is more common.

Unless lots of VRAM is needed the S9150 looks like a more efficient option than the S9170

Can they recycle that heat ?

Can they recycle that heat ?

I guess technically....but most server rooms I've been in are simply air conditioned by large room units and then each individual rack has it's own cooling unit (and then each individual server/appliance usually as it's own fans blowing through it -- if it produces enough heat). So it's possible to recycle the heat in the winter to heat the building, but it's rarely if ever done in the real world due to limitations in building design/over complication/not worth the money.

Can they recycle that heat ?

They could, but there isn't much point as it would be costly and no one would really gain anything from it.

I don't follow the professional cards very closely but doesn't the newer architecture usually come out around a year after the consumer cards have been released?

@Nineshadow It could since it appears to be based on a 290X

The front face allows air in. Server racks tend to have 4000+ RPM fans that are small with very directed, pointed airflow. It's not exactly passive.
