So before all the screams come in, i was wondering since ive never played a fallout game can i just jump into the story of fallout 4 without worrying about the storyline? Also are there any games to compare it to?

Yes you can. The story doesn't have to do anything with the other's.
Even fallout 3 (character was the lone wanderer) and fallout new vegas (protagonist was the courier) had different stories.
But please for the love of god play them. They are amazing rpgs with great open worlds.

I've always wanted to play the Fallout games, so I picked 3 and NV up in the Summer Sale and I have to say I like it.

It is a bit different from what I'm used to, but it is enjoyable nonetheless. Purely story based, I am quite certain that you could just jump into 4 without any issues.

New to Star Citizen? Look no further!

The stories are unique to each game so there is no reason to play the others in that regard

however they are fantastic games!! ever played oblivion or skyrim? its similar but with guns, and exploring more modern settings, more interesting weird and wonderful people, quests and stories

Fallout 3 + NV are probably 2 of my favourite games of all time

I agree. I'm already prepared to add Fallout 4 to that list as well. Can't wait for it.

even fallout 3 the worst one in the series is considered one of the best games of all time, so yeah I think you should give it a shoot, and if you want to try out something similar to fallout 4, you can pick up 3 and new vegas for cheap, fallout 4 will be similar but improved (expect the writhing, it probably won't be as good as new vegas as it was made by obsidian and not bethesda game studios)

All Fallout games are separate stories but there are some characters and places overlapping. I would play F1,F2,FNV while waiting for F4. Graphics can be issue for most I bet when it comes to the older games.

I would play 3 and NV. Although 1 and 2 are good, they are more of an aquired taste.

None of the Fallout stories are direct continuations from each other.

Technically 1&2 are.

And apart from 3, 1,2&NV share a lot of back stories together.

Now that 4 is coming out, its going to have some references to 3.

3 was much better than NV...

I'd say go for it! I'd start with 3 and work through that before going to NV though

Story starts off in a differnet vault each time, as a different character.  You choose how to play the game, You never have to do a quest if thats what you want.

Most definitely you should get into it.  Fallout 3 was better than new vegas in my opinion.  NV had too many "vegas themed" gimmicks that made it undesirable to me

well a vegas themed city, the map seemed smaller an centered around "the strip" where there were casinos.  A lot of missions also based around the casinos.  It just didn't feel like the end of the world, more like a futuristic vegas.  Casinos, Gambling, 1 huge city made of smaller parts, rather than spread out little shanty towns.

Don't get me wrong, it was a good game too, and had some benefits over fallout 3.  But I still prefered fo3 over nv.

Don't be ashamed you haven't tried Fallout before! Not knowing the story of the previous games isn't bad, but it wouldn't hurt to familiarize yourself with the lore. As for the games, Fallout 1,2,  are very different and probably more hardcore than the newer games from Bethesda. Fallout 3 and New Vegas share the same engine as Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and are quite similar in terms of gameplay, so if you like playing the Elder Scrolls series, you'll have fun with Fallout 3 and NV.

1&2 are quite complex compared to the newer ones and you have to figure a lot of stuff by yourself. No arrows pointing in the air "go here" You can also fuck up your character. One of the funniest builds is when your character has low IQ.

Try it, mod it, break it, fix it and mod it again.

Half of my time spent with this franchise is basically not really playing game, but fixing other modder's mods so that it runs better on my modded game.
