GTX 970 or is there any AMDs alternatives?

The title says it all, I'm looking to upgrade my GPU, the current one is GTX 750, And yeah.... I was looking to buy the GTX 970 but then the Fury X came...which mean AMD GPU prices will drop, So...is there any AMD alternatives or should I just go with the GTX 970 instead?

290/290X are pretty similar in performance, and even better at higher resolutions. But IMO 970 is best feature wise.

r9 290x after the price drops. if you are planning on 4k get r9 290x if its 1440p think about getting r9 290x. if its 1080p and if the 970 and 290x prices are the same then get the 970 if the 290x prices are 60 dollars cheaper like they are here then 290x

290x, 390, 390x. Anyone of those will do fine, but imo if you're planning to just stick to 1080p gaming the 970 will be fine...

In most of the benchmarks a stock* 970 beats the 290x in nearly every benchmark even at 1440p and some 4k

The 290x is the "equivalent". I would however get the 970. It's an awesome card for what you pay for.

r9 390x is the same performance wise as r9 290x its just that the r9 390x has 8GB which is pointless for your resolution. if you are not planning to upgrade to 4k and the r9 290x isnt significantly cheaper id say get the 970

The 390X is a rebrand of a 290X with 8GB instead of 4GB (and some performance tweaks). What is your PSU? I'd recommend a 970 at 900p res. Most likely the fans won't even spin with light games if you by 3rd party coolers, and it will keep the rest of your PC cooler.

At 1080p the GTX 970 beats the R9 290, 290X and 390. The 390X performs on par at 1080p. The 390X is an overclocked 290X with 8Gb GDDR5. It was more power and runs hotter than a 290X, and won't overclock well as it is already overclocked basically. I've seen ~5% performance increases from overclocks. With most GTX 970 overclocks you're looking at around 15% more performance. The 390X is also $100+ more expensive.

At 1080p I'd recommend the 970. 1440p or higher AMD usually takes the lead.

They have upgraded it much, it is not simply a overclocked model.

 

And it now uses less power sure the 970 is good but if he found the other two cheaper its no point buying it!

One thing though, the 390x (I'm comparing stock numbers here) now has the performance of a 980 while being only a $100 more than the 970. 

And it's not true that you can't overclock the 390x.
