As much as I loved ATI, I mean adored them, and I'd love it to happen, 

without the original team, it's not the same company, and they'd essentially be shifting the current GPU team to the new company.

ATi were the last true rival to Nvidia, ever since AMD collected the company, things went badly on the CPU side, and they never gained an advantage over Nvidia.

Yeah. You know that both Nvidia and AMD have bought out literally the entire computer graphics industry, right? ATi isn't the only company that was bought out by the two giants.

I never really was into Windows systems back when I was like 6 years old (the same year AMD acquired ATi) I do however remember back in like 2009 my mom had a Compaq Presario that had like an AMD Phenom II and later installed an AMD Radeon HD 4000 series GPU (or something like that)... Personally back in 2009/2010 I remember watching Apple stuff and being very fond of Apple. Today I've toned that down dramatically (I still have a soft spot for OS X and would gladly have it as my daily driver again) but eh idk.

I'd like to see AMD remain AMD. I guess if it kept the AMD branding and logo and AMD was the majority owner with co-proprietorship with a bank or other entity. However AMD's GPU business is the only real reason AMD is still relevant. Though I think Zen is why AMD was unable to produce huge leaps and bounds in a new GPU architecture since the current architectures were fine but could use some refinements..

ATI was a separate company that designed GPUs, like NVIDIA. AMD acquired them a few years back, and they became AMD's new GPU division.

AMD just absorbed what was ATi into their new GPU division, so I don't see them separating... AMD certainly wouldn't like that either as it ruins their APU idea.

If AMD fails miserably with their Zen architecture and continues to loose market share, then yes, i could imagine ATI to branch off of AMD again.

 

Then ATI could freely compete with Nvidia and build awesome GPUs like they used to. Not sure howevver how hard AMD has dragged the GPU compartment down the drain if it ever were to split off.

I would love this. Competition is always good, no matter what side of the fence you sit on. That said they are so far behind I don't think its ever going to happen...

 

CPU releases have been a hail marry, fans crossing fingers in the hope they somehow manage to close the gap Intel put on them all those years ago... I chance for it too be like old times.

 

The GPU game is being dominated by Nvidia. On the surface AMD performance is looking promising, which is great... But below that are razor thin profits in comparisons due to limitations in RND, manufacturing costs on the red team are much higher, This has been addressed by AMD already claiming the need to move from a "budget" company in a bid to stop the loss of profits seen in the last few years....

 

Meanwhile on team green they have been spending on RND and expanding the company... Fury might be the fastest card out... but the market majority is down in the 380/390 960/70 range. And even if AMD beat them in performance Nvidia can crush them with price, they can make the cards much cheaper then AMD. And what performance is gained is only going to last until the next release... Then AMD what? Do what refresh again... Lower the prices on fury even lower...

 

I hope AMD crush this release somehow and make millions billions and this all becomes a distant memory. But a lot has to change.

But yes it would be nice to see a 3rd competitor on the market.
