Systemic music

Normal price: 39,99€

Pre-order: 35,99€

(Could someone check the price in $?)

It's kinda expensive, considering TrackMania United Forever was 29,99€ for 7 environments. But hey, it's coming to consoles now, yey!

Also, is it just me or is it looking quite alot like Sega AllStars Racing? It looks too "arcade-ish" - if that makes sense? I'm a bit disappointed in this. The overall appearance and gameplay looks like it should be played by 5-year-olds.

Anyway, I'm a big fan of the series and might still consider getting it if they get rid of the ManiaPlanet nonsense and if it will be released on Steam.

(On a side note, they mentioned Nadeo nowhere, only Ubisoft, kinda disappointing ...)

I LOVE this game, and am really glad to see a new one. But the price seems a little bit steep.

Oh gosh, still remember Trackmania from way back in the day..

Looks cool, but eh.. 40 euros..

It looks a bit like Sonic racing game, in terms of vibrant colors, but otherwise gameplay still looks like Trackmania to me

I won't be pre-ordering, probably wait for a steam sale. But i really love this series, I've owned every game (Canyon feels best imo), and I am definitely looking forward to this one.

Kinda wished the trailer was in glorious 60FPS though

AFAICT, it's just TM. As any version of TM has always been just TM. The only difference here seems to be the ability for consoles to get involved.... Why would I need (read: want) to pay more for that?

I edited the original post with some more info and added some screenshots.

The PS4 and XBox One versions are listed for a December 31, 2016 release, lol ...

Anyway I'm still not convinced. Nadeo hasn't done something decent since they were acquired by Ubisoft in 2009.  Trackmania² Canyon, Stadium and Valley were okay but ManiaPlanet messed up the community. Shootmania Storm was simply bad. I'm sure Ubisoft will find a way to mess this one up, by making life diificult for modders or something.

I really hope this can be the title than brings the community together but yeah, wait and see.

PS: It's also a bad name, since there is already a version of the game called TrackMania Turbo for the Nintendo DS.

More news released in a blog post: https://blog.maniaplanet.com/blog/2015/06/16/hello-planet-5-nadeo-maniaplanet-and-trackmania-turbo/

The interesting bits:

Trackmania Turbo
We have finally released the information that we are working on Trackmania for consoles! The whole studio is looking forward this big release. And I hope that Trackmania Turbo will be like a classic game that we can boot again in many years, with the same hardware & software, and enjoy both from good memories and always renewed stuff, thanks to the huge campaign, map editor or random generator. Somehow, I wish this game to be like a pool table, flipper or a babyfoot for families. It’s still in front of a screen, or in virtual reality, but there is something really simple, pure and infinitely skilled that makes it somehow like an object more than a spectacle.
Since the foundation of the studio, we have avoided to work on something else than the personal computer because the PC is well adapted for what we do and what we will do. But there were just too good reasons to make console versions and I will try to explain them, as well as to answer the difficult questions.

The good reasons
  • After E3 2013, thanks to the console specs, we knew we could do it while keeping the studio focus on Maniaplanet for the future.
  • Reach even more players with Trackmania thanks to the game quality, launch and lasting appeal
  • Take time to work on the Lagoon environment
  • Take time to work on the living room aspect of Trackmania, to play with relatives and friends in front of the big screen!
  • Improve the Trackmania API for Maniaplanet: the game is all done with manialink & maniascript.

And probably the best we got out of it is also the opportunity to build a stronger team that should help a lot for our next Maniaplanet steps.

The difficult questions

  • Trackmania Turbo is standalone on PC. It will create another additional place of community, instead of all in one place.
  • Lagoon will release only next year on Maniaplanet, to take time to adapt content at best.
  • We intend to make a commercial move for players who wish all TM envs in Maniaplanet & the TM Turbo game.
  • A restricted choice of consoles, since it’s the same team working on Trackmania Turbo & Maniaplanet, for reasons of time.

For me, dividing is the only big question, and seems to be a counter part of looking to have best of both worlds: TM Turbo for a finished product & Maniaplanet in a constant evolution by players & us. So, it will be a challenge, we have some things to do to help, including the release of Maniaplanet 4, but it’s also partly in the hands of the community players to transform this division in addition.
Many other questions will have to be answered later, like the question of a beta or the way the online will be done, but we have to wait and come back with more info later!

"It will create another additional place of community, instead of all in one place." In other words, they are gonna divide the community even more.

Some developers then started answering questions from fans:

Toninus, the goal is to make the gameplay as close as possible and we will even update the Maniaplanet ones to enable more easily players to jump from one game to another. I am thinking about the antispam in Valley for example. It may break some world records, but I am sure some players will be good enough to reset them even better ^_^ More and more elements to change gameplay may appears in Maniaplanet over time, like the gravity this month.

To export tracks would be complicated since various datas are expected to be different.

No collisions

For online, info will come later, but I doubt we will do cross-platform. For Uplay, I need to look more at it before giving answers: I have a meeting for this soon

I will be back later for more answers. I will avoid to do all in a rush

and

Why didn't you prioritize ManiaPlanet as your main project and finishing/polish it instead of porting the unfinished work into a multiplatform game?

Turbo will broaden the audience for the Trackmania brand and will help TM2 to get more people in it. It may have lower TM2 player population at the release of Turbo but we're confident that it'll not last (that's the effect to want to try something new and then return on the plateform where you have more options to have fun and where your friends/community are)

Maniaplanet players are likely to stay on Maniaplanet to enjoyed the advanced features of the plateform and Turbo players may be interested to see what the community cook on Maniaplanet.

For those who ask if Turbo player can play with Maniaplanet players :

TM Turbo for a finished product & Maniaplanet in a constant evolution by players & us.

Are they really suggesting that people new to trackmania that have bought TMT will just randomly decide...Oh hey, I can also buy the same games I already have in TMT because there's other players and titlepacks and...uh, seriously?

Even if they'll gift free access to ManiaPlanet titles to those who have bought TMT - there's no way they are going to switch because there's no good reason for it.
