USB 2.0 type A Reversible Asus Thor

Asus has demoed a Thor Motherboard having reversable connectable option. The video is not in english. But you can see the working. The question is.. Is it necessary for 2.0?

It would be one thing if ALL of the ports were reversible, but having just one reversible one on the back of your computer seems really stupid to me. I guess it would make sense on a laptop, but hey, thats just my $0.02

There's one very easy fix to make ALL usb ports reversible

 

take the metal shroud off except for the bits at the side of the connector, and wire another set of contacts on the other side. Easy.

Maybe ASUS is just releasing this to see if people complain about it or anything? (might be more prone to breakage? idk)

This is more of a proof-of-concept rather then a product they'll expect to sell heaps of. Hence "Thor Demo board"

Here's the real question: Why was this not done to begin with? Why did we even need to make the USB 3.1 type C? This new reversible USB 2.0 port is fully forward and backward compatible with USB 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 devices which makes a shit ton more sense than the ridiculous type C connector. I hope this takes off and becomes the new industry standard, screw USB type C!!

so im still not sold on this whole reversible usb thing. to me it seems like a pointless gimick to make people buy a product and i will avoid these reversable ports even th new usb type c cuase its dumb and dumb and dumb... i guess im the only one that has not had an issue with getting it in the first time? like its really simple and if you try to put it in wrong just turn it around like why are we humans so lazy that we spend tons of money to save a quarter of a second on plugging somehting in... sheesh... 

 

sorry i just had to vent about that and seeing all these reversible ports just made me have to finaly say whats on my mind... toodles and hopefuly no one pays attention to me >.>

I'm paying attention to your post and judging you heavily for your wrong opinion. It's less that humans are lazy and more that we should have dealt with this unnecessary aggravation DECADES ago. Most people's lives are irritating enough without a simple connector making a fool of us on a regular basis.

Forget about the reversible connector, look at how clean that motherboard is, I know I know it's only a demo board and probably doesn't function but damn it looks neat.
