Mixmatching 980's

I've just purchased a 980 Classified for a very good price with a backplate. However, I cannot find another classified for that good of a price. Would it be OK to mix match 980's in SLI without any issues? I know you can use 2 different 980's in SLI, I just want to make sure they will work fine. The second card would be a EVGA 980 ACX 2.0. They pretty much have the same design

Its fine, if one card is slower but will run at the slowest card speed

So it will run at the speed of the ACX card and not the classified?

IT is still a 980, so it would be like running 2 980s at different clockspeeds, so it would work.

Well then overclock the normal version to the speeds of the classified. It is not the hardest thing in the world

Regardless, the classified overclocks like a beast. I doubt the ACX can keep up. Thanks tho.

Same cooler but it's a different chip.

It will take the Lower Clock Speed.  If it weren't to do it that the cards would break down.

No it doesnt. The Classified has a different PCB than the Refrence 980 or the ACX 2.0 Version for that matter. soooo......

I know it has a different PCB, but it still has a 980 core. BIG difference

Same chip, different card.. IIRC, uprated power delivery is the biggest difference. and at $150 more, your better off going for a Ti..

The classified has stock clock: 1292 boost clock 1393 

EVGA SC acx2.0 stock clock: 1266 boost clock 1367

 

You paid $150 extra for 26 MHz, seeing as until you put them under water they overclock pretty much identically. (And even under water, I doubt it's a massive difference.)

 

You could easily get the ACX2.0 and boost the clockspeed manually to be identical to the classified. (And probably overclock the whole setup to ~1500 MHz.)

Easy answer:

 

As long as you match the clock speeds on the Core and Vram, and have the same amount of Vram it doesn't matter.

 

If not the card with the lowest speeds will be the one the highspeed card clocks to automatically as long as it has the same VRAM otherwise you will have issue in game outside of that it wont matter.
