Nintendo NX might be running off of Android

ahhming

According to Japanese business magazine Nikkei, their newest console, codenamed the NX, will run off of some version of the Android OS, much like the Ouya did.

Fortunately, we have a summary by NeoGAF user Duckroll. It appears as though Nintendo had a change of heart since third party developers abandoned the WiiU, prompting their decision to branch out into Android. This, combined with their recent partnership with DeNA, suggests they might be trying to open up their consoles to more developers.

NeoGAF user Duckroll.

Oh boy it has been a long time since I last heard any reference to those times.

Anyway, I wonder if that means that any future first party Nintendo games might become available on other Android based platforms. I do find it unlikely that Nintendo would be that open with their games but it would be interesting.

IF that's true it will likely be something very heavily customized so it won't look or feel anything like traditional Android.

I'm really starting to wonder exactly how long Nintendo can stay in the past, without failing as a company.

I know they have a huge fanbase in japan and around the world, I used to be apart of it, but seriously. Are they ever going to actually make a modern console?

As for running off of android,

Makes complete sense for Nintendo.

Also will result in the easiest emulation we will ever get, so I say bring it on.

^is about all that needs to be said.

This seems like the dumbest thing Nintendo could do, they already got pissy at people and everyone took their ROMS down.... now they want to go to android... well good luck not having everything pirated and stolen

If the future is truely in game streaming it could make sense that it runs off android. As far as I am aware nintendo sells the most games in japan and as many of you know internet is not exactly terrible there. It would be cool to see nintendo push this. Also with nvidia developing SDK's for android (gameworks) we could possibly see nvidia hardware in the NX? Tegra is pretty capable or whatever its called.

I just want to see them come out with something that is more graphically capable than either the xbone or ps4.

Is it so much to ask Nintendo? For you to actually get back in the game instead of endlessly rehashing your glory years?

Yup. That's why I'm okay with it. Nintendo bitches so much about their games being pirated.

Ms and Sony? They just ban your console (not your account, they want you to go buy another console after all) and don't care.

Hell. MS truly doesn't give a shit as long as you stay offline and away from multiplayer.

Nintendo doesn't understand the modern age. At all.

I've never really been a nintendo fan, sure I played the pokemons, the zeldas but that was only on the portable consoles. None of the recent nintendo games for their consoles have enticed me. I would sure hope so that it's faster than the xb-1 and ps4 as they're already hitting their limits and third party development is just stagnant on the Wii U now, it's just too slow for what many devs want to do with their games.

Yeah, they haven't actually tried to compete in a good while. I left their fanboy religion after the gamecube, when the WII was announced and all I could think is "what is this gimmicky motion control bullsh*t"

Yeah, I said it. Motion control is a gimmick, and it needs to go away from the industry, completely.

Which is funny because Japan is one of the more modern societies out there, compared to say, the US.

I have to say that I actually enjoyed the wii however this was at at time was I was around 10 years old, and you could have put a steaming pile of shit in front of me and I would still play it. I had many a fun time playing tennis and breaking the stuff in the process because the space I played in was way too small.

The tech behind the motion control stuff is more interesting in robotics projects to be honest, computer vision with the kinect and control with the motion controls. The most fun I've had with the kinect was just scanning myself into a 3-D model and then make it shatter by animating it. It's with the advancements with things like kinect that leads to stuff like hololens, alex kippman the guy behind the kinect is also behind the hololens(I'm sure many other are behind it too), I'm sure he's learnt a lot from the kinect and how it can help with other projects down the line.

I'll admit, I did enjoy RE: 4 and 5 on the Wii. (and I of course replayed OoT Master Quest. Which was actually easier than the original OoT for me)

Sadly I bought RE: 6 recently, and feel like someone spit in my face.

Guys, they mean "Android" in the same was as Fire OS. As in, it's a forked version rather than a skin. Yes, they want to do it make it easier to make games playable on console, handheld, and mobile. No, it doesn't mean 3D Zelda on Android.

It isn't?

Well I know I played RE 4 on it. I've got it sitting in the other room (not my console, my sisters). Maybe I played 5 on 360 or something. I know I've played it and it was fun. Although not quite as fun as 4

I doubt it, with nintendo's stance against emulation and piracy i can't imagine them running with android.

It was really nice of Nintendo to decide to make all of their games free.

why do so many good cases only come in black and white
