Oh, I never knew that there was any differences other than the car is just powered by the front wheels. Aren't they better in snow than rear wheel drive?

Yep. In the snow they are better than a RWD platform, but not as capable as an AWD platform.

Well I've never driven a RWD car before so I can't comment on that.

But I do live in country with snowy and icy winters so I guess I prefer FWD, that helps in the winter. Especially as my car doesn't have electronic traction aids.

Think I have only driven front wheel drive cars, so I have no idea. Unless a Mini is rear wheel. I honestly have no idea.

There is nothing inherently wrong with FWD, but it lacks some of the advantages of AWD or FWD.

FWD has some natural limitations on the amount of HP and torque that can be put to the ground, as well as the transmissions tend to not be as sturdy. These limitations are less pronounced with AWD or RWD.

The advantage that FWD does offer is that it is cheaper to manufacture, and therefore more common on normal commuter cars.

Have you ever asked yourself why F1 cars, Touring Cars, and Endurance racing cars are almost exclusively RWD? Because the chassis are naturally more capable as you are more evenly spreading the work between the tires.

EDIT: My every day car is FWD, because it is adequate for it's intended use. AWD would be preferable but comes at a higher cost. RWD is more fun but not very practical in my region.

Some normal cars, such as the Mazdaspeed 6, actually have AWD, and you can find on craigslist for under 10Gs.

I guess I don't see your point. There are a good number of normal cars that are AWD.

My ford fusion has a titanium version that includes AWD

obviously that one is more expensive, but still less than $40k which is pretty reasonable for a luxury sedan

Like a car that doesn't cost over 30 Gs.

Pretty sure all Fords use Mazda's AWD system.

Uh, question? Who buys brand new cars other than rich people (or upper-middle class)? Saves a ton of money (and environment too, as a secondary bonus). Not a single person I know has ever bought brand new cars over here, ever.

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.

On pavement, yeah, gravel and dirt don't damage the tires as much as far as I know.

They do depending on the compound in the tyre.

i.e. if you have really soft compound tyres for extra grip (must have for any v8/highly strung turbo'd car in my area due to rain) then it drys them out and can actually rip chunks off.

Not to mention the damage to your body work, destroys paint (rocks) and if you have a car anything similar to what I like then the fact that it's lowered you would be expecting for bumpers to be ripped off and possibly even a rad if it's mounted low.

Nice bike, I rather the look of the old carby'd r6 though, the 2000 model.

Currently only have a postie which has scratches 3mm deep in the bore and the piston looks like its been dragged behind a car.

She blows more smoke then a 2 banga and the clutch is screwed from doing first-second clutch ups around town
