Benro S2 vs S4 vs Velbon PH-368

Go to solution Solved by ShadowCaptain,

hmm 24mm@2.8?

Would be good, f2.8 still gives a nice depth of field and decent low light performance

24mm is nice as it would be roughly a 35-38mm lens after crop which is much better than 80mm

yeah, thats a little pricy.....

how much would you sell it for?

any ideas on similar ones to the 50mm?

I am not sure, make me an offer

35mm would be better, or something wider for a prime IMO -

you could get this - and get some FD glass off ebay - 50 f1.8 and 70-210mm - I have been using them on my sony A7 :D

it will crop it, they are full frame so just like using a normal EFS lens

its cheaper than getting a brand new lens from a shop - dont forget they are all manual, no electronics, so not much to go wrong, as long as they are fog and fungus free

I have started collecting vintage lenses, and they are great for video as they have gorgeous manual focus and nice aperture controls on the lens itself :D

anyway, just an idea, if you are on a tight budget and want good glass - used vintage is a good idea - some local camera shops sometimes sell these too, so could be worth a scout

hmmm yeah, good idea, but i cant find any low aperture ones. the only one i found was that 50mm you showed me... i want like 35mm or even lower....

basically i need a good lens with a good aperture that will be ok for b-roll.... i have a very small room, so i wont be able to move the camera much....

i want good DOF and Bokeh....

f2,8 will be ok, if you are looking at lenses

the 50mm is quite hard to work with, at 80mm its more of a potrait lens, and requires quite a far minimum distance, however it has a very nice aesthetic, and if you can get a few feet between you and what you are filming would do a good job

haha yeah good luck with that with your budget :D

superzooms are soft, fact, they will never be as sharp as a prime, my main general purpose lens is a 24-70 f2.8 - and a 70-200 f2.8 -  or for APSC a 17-55 f2.8 for you

EF lenses are full frame, EFS are for APSC (1.6 Crop)

Lenses are always given in 35mm equivelents, so the 18-55 kit lens is actually a 28.8 - 88mm lens when mounted on your camera

Yeah f2.8 is much brighter so better in low light and a much more shallow depth of field

Yep just like there is a big difference between f1.8 and f2.8 and f4.0 , heck some people pay more just to get f1.4 of f0.95 ($10k for the leica etc)

its a prime so it will also be much sharper

so i just watched a review on the 24mm, that seems the best...

would you pick the 40mm 2.8 over the 24mm 2.8??

if i have enough i will get both so one of those ^ and the 50mm f1.8

I think f0.78 or something but commonly f0.95 like the leica noctilux - there are also some copies from SLR magix and Mitakon (I plan to get an FE mount one for my A7 in the future)

as far as which lens to buy it depends on your needs and which focal length you prefer really, there is no right answer

so i just watched a review on the 24mm, that seems the best...

would you pick the 40mm 2.8 over the 24mm 2.8??

if i have enough i will get both so one of those ^ and the 50mm f1.8

yeah, i think ill go with the 24mm 2.8....

obviously, im gonna get the tripod first, then the head, then the slider (if i get one...)

and then ill get a lens.....

I think f0.78 or something but commonly f0.95 like the leica noctilux - there are also some copies from SLR magix and Mitakon (I plan to get an FE mount one for my A7 in the future)

as far as which lens to buy it depends on your needs and which focal length you prefer really, there is no right answer

cool, thanks

ShadowCaptain,

How can i not get grain on my 650d?

Even at ISO 100, i still get grains....

f3.5

1/60 shutter

im using CineStyle preset and taking the contrast and saturation up in Premiere/Speedgrade...

Im not even taking it up that much....

but it looks grainy....
