R9 290 with Corsair CX600M

Eyesthetics

just a few moments ago my R9 290 caused me to panic, so this morning i was just playing far cry 4 and watch dogs, it ran normally like it's always been, then i turned off the pc and went out to do some business, then i just got back home, i turned on my pc and behold, the monitor said "No Signal" my knee jerk reaction was to re-plug the HDMI cable, but to no avail...then i saw my 290 fan not spinning (reference card) i was immediately shocked and turned off the pc, took off the card, and re-connect the pcie cable, then it worked normally..

this has me worried, what could have caused this ? when i left the house my card was working just fine. is it because of my psu ? or could it be due to my pcie cable ? my PSU only has one pcie slot then the PCIE cable is daisy chained, it has two 6+2 pins connectors.. i've read somewhere that daisy chained pcie cable is dangerous and not recommended for a high-end graphics card..

what do ? i don't wanna fry a $215 graphics card...

I had a 600w powering my 290x before. It barely worked. I would suggest a PSU upgrade TBH

Guys it just did it again, only this time when I'm using the pc, the monitor suddenly said "no signal detected" and My case fans as well as my gpu fan stopped spinning, had to reset my pc to get it back working..

Bad psu?

Really? 600watt not enough for a single card pc build? What the actual fuck?

I made a thread asking if a 600w psu can handle my pc and people said it can

The CX600M is fine for powering a 290, mine has been running for a year

But your PSU seems to be failing, replace it asap

You might not need a bigger ship, but your current psu is sinking. The Corsair HX series is a significantly better higher quality unit compared to the CX versions.

This is more than you need, and it's a bit overpriced compared to competition, but you are paying for reliability. I have an HX unit from 2008 that's still working today. It's a 520w unit that can power an R9 280. Not quite as hungry as the 290, but it's still working.

Here is a suggestion: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139011

At this point, I wouldn't keep testing with your current psu. Just get a new one. The way I see it is if issues remain, then it wasn't the psu. If the issues go away, then you fixed the problem.

Is your CPU oc'ed to 1.3v?

Well you might not need more than 600w. When you asked people if 600w is enough for a 290, did you mention you would be oc'ing to 4.6 at 1.3v?

What is the maximum power the 290 can draw under 100% load? As well as my cpu?

Really surprised a 600watt psu not enough for a single card

I don't think it isn't enough. It might be a little more loaded than you think considering your cpu oc. Are you also oc'ing your video card?

You could have just received a lemon.

600w is fine for a 290 ,

There seems to be a problem with the PSU .

Either try downclocking the cpu and the gpu to stock or return the psu <-- I think this is the problem .

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.

I don't oc my card, because it's thermal throttling even at stock speed

600W is more than enough for R9 290 .. there is no single GPU card that needs more than 550W PSU.

Corsair CX600 will be sufficient. May be problem with your PSU or try not to daisy chain if you can (not because it is dangerous (it isnt) but because of the Amps your lanes can provide).

It comes daisy chained out of the box

The other suggestions are reasonable. Turn off your cpu oc and let it run at stock speeds and see what happens.

Yea, I am looking at the picture right now. It still should work just fine. Maybe your PSU is faulty?

R9 290 needs 31A on 12V rail combined and your PSU can provide up to 45A so I dont see problem there.
