So I was browsing vintage ads because they are baller and I came into this.

Dr battys ashma cigarretes to heal bronchial irritations.

The irony is thought the roof.

There was ALOT of intentional ignorance about tobbaco in early america.

At least where I live, they tax them through the roof (about $10 US/pack) and force them to use like 70% of the advertisement saying how bad they are for you. They've also banned smoking in cars, near children and in public.

where I live you can't smoke in bars and at restaurants (outside) anymore. Also not at a lot of public places.

They tax is waaaay high here too, but there are no spooky pictures on the packaging (like the pictures they have on packs in Australia).

But there are still many kids (12-17 year olds) that smoke and they think it's very normal..

People here can choose to allow smoking in bars / restaurants here, but if they allow it they either need to be in a different section (that has a door between the two) or they are only allowed to cater to 18+ people, and cant allow anyone younger than that in. Teen smoking here is basically non-existant, I know maybe 3 people who do it, out of maybe 400 people.

There are people even now that advocate raw milk for babies even though it's a terrible terrible hazard for them with very serious risk of death. I don't know if they're just that deluded or if they really believe there's no danger or if they're just sociopathic and value making money over the lives of infants etc. :0/

Another problem is with Vaccines and parents . There are still people believing that vaccines cause Autism ... I don't know what to think ...

Another problem is with Vaccines and parents . There are still people believing that vaccines cause Autism ... I don't know what to think ...

iirc correctly it was a single doctor talking about what he imagined could be the outcome of a potential investigation and that was enough to spark a firestorm that's causing problems even today. It seems that one of the things that might have helped to solidify the belief is that the vaccine is given at around the age that autism becomes apparent, potentially causing misattribution by parents who's children turned out to be autistic. There's absolutely nothing to indicate any kind of rise in the percentage of children with autism because of vaccination.

It's like the mozart effect  There was a single kind of proto-study in which there was a random a blip in the results; in the full studies they've not been able to replicate it and in fact it was found that there's no correlation between classical music and cognitive ability. But...it still became a world-wide phenomenon, probably because of the human instinct to want to get ahead of the crowd and the people who are wiling to exploit that instinct.

I saw a documentary about a guy that gave an after-school class for some of the more status minded families in his area, around which allegations of child-abuse grew. It turned out that all of the information that one or two of the children gave was complete fabrication and completely disprovable but that didn't come to light until after some of the parents had formed a support group which ended up growing in number because these status minded parents basically wanted to be part of it for basic networking opportunities and the social advantages that being in a group with those other parents would afford. The documentary also featured the children having grown up basically saying...er...yeah...we made it up.

Ultimately these things are mainly social issues more than they are scientific. Even when the science shows conclusively one thing to be true it's a social problem that these things still proliferate and spread like wildfire. As for the Mozart Effect, before the myth hit the media it probably was true that you'd get further in life if you grew up listening to classical music but not for any reason that listening to classical music alone could produce for you.

Also, if I remember correctly, there is something (a kind of bark) that people could smoke to help their asthma, it's mentioned in a scene of outlander. I wanna say willow bark but I could be wrong. That being said....cigarettes will not help asthma lol

Honestly I don't care if you smoke or not, as long as you aren't around a bunch of other people. Secondhand smoke is apparently worse than what you inhale from smoking directly, so don't make other people suffer because you want to smoke.

Thanks :0)

But really that's just the very basic gist; in essence at least, the clearer examples of larger social trends?

Memory itself is actually notoriously unreliable and perception isn't much better. Most of what we think we see and know is really really unreliable. If you can find a copy of this it's really interesting viewing (very broad and very practical, not deep and technical as TTC often can be, just really interesting and really helpful)... http://www.thegreatcourses.co.uk/courses/your-deceptive-mind-a-scientific-guide-to-critical-thinking-skills.html

I honestly don't give a shit what you do yourself, do drugs all you want, I don't care.

But these people smoke in the streets, or at a subway station or whatever and that is just disgusting because I have to walk behind them or stand next to them.

Which is of course not healthy and just foul.

I don't feel the need to shoot them or whatever, but it just so foul.

Usually when people smoke next to me I have to cough (because it is nasty and can barely breath with it) and they just look at me as if I was coughing on purpose..

It's awful.

I'm 17 now and through out my high school years, I have seen quite some teenagers smoke. It really is just disgusting, because they spend so much money on making themselves unhealthy.

Yeah, if you read the actual studies done on second hand smoke, you have to inhale as much of it as you would if you were a smoker, to even have an effect. It's public space so...deal with it.

I think the smell of mexican and indian food is foul, but that doesn't give me a right to ban it or hate the people who eat it.
