I used to love playing games for their story and because it was fun playing games. Now I seem to get too caught up in making sure my games are running at 60fps and/or by the graphical quality. For example, I tried playing deus ex and I just couldn't stand the look of the game... Is it just me or does this happen to others?

For me the same! (Now I tried to fix my CPU temperature 124 degrees Celcius, but the program I used is glitching -_- On every other program I used it was even a really low temperature!)

May your temperatures be low and your framerates be high.

The last year my interest in playing games has dropped off loads..

I put it down to finding it harder to find games I like to play and where I can go on a server and play with a bunch of good folks.. Lobby stuffs has ruined online gaming for me.

I'm sure there are still some out there but it's definitely not as easy or common to find especially with a game style I like.

This happens to me so much to the point i just turn off the fps counter and stop giving a shit.

The game that I enjoy the most is dota 2 because it runs pinned at 120 fps xD

Pretty much this. I've gone back to older games such as Halo 1 because there is just no screwing around when you want to join a server.

I used to play games like EV Nova, for hours and hours, I spent almost 8 years playing that game. But now, if i run into a game that doesn't have full voice acting then I just can't get excited about it.

Ev nova is still probably one of my all time fav games, but like, no voice acting, so it's all, literally all, just reading.

Anyway, yea, i get that. I sometimes get caught up in the software portions of games nowadays, paying more attention to a way they implemented something, instead of the actual game itself. Doesn't seem to stop me through from putting in 20 hours a week.

they care more about games being available on PC and moddable. They care about resolution on consoles because you cannot match the native res of your screen or TV, and unstable framerate makes games shitty to play.

I play games on PC on medium even though I generally can play on ultra, because I just don't care to take the time to tune the best settings I can get as long as it's native resolution and 60 fps and not bad looking

because the games you've tweaked and put that hours didn't pay off with the excitement over tweaking you've done.

games became more mainstream for non-gaming individuals, developers puts more into graphic fidelity and dumb down almost anything to make it more appeal for the audiences they've targeted.

by the time you get the performance you want, the game it self didn't live your expectations, because it wasn't made for you.

and sadly that's been happening over decades...

Depends on what you mean by "look" of the game.  If you didn't like the aesthetic, than theres nothing wrong with you, that's just your opinion.  Unless you're talking about the original Deus Ex, now that game looks like shit.  It's definitely harder to go back to a completely different world in terms of graphical fidelity.  Like sure, I'd love to play Medieval II all the time, but man it looks so bad by today's standard, especially the UI.

I used to play games on my old notebook on minimum settings with really low FPS and I was enjoying them but it is true that those were older games and not today's over hyped titles.

After I bough my dream machine I just found out that I did not missed on anything really. Most of games today are just so uninteresting. I need to be really picky to find something that can entertain me for at least one hour. And I am speaking about Single Player. Last year it were only 3 games... Three!

This year so far only The Talos Principle and I am still waiting to see how Witcher 3 will turn out to be. Also hopefully Distance from the guys who made Nitronic Rush will show up this year... That's it. 3-4 games with potential per year. Very poor days for games.

And yes.. I still think about hardware and stuff and would like to have all new PC tech and upgrade something every while but I am keeping my self in the leash so far because I know it would be meaningless.

I used to have serious addiction issues. Without digressing into the details it wouldn't be unusual for me to forgo sleep (and sometimes food) for weeks. I didn't stop out of concern over hardware performance though. Having my own family and several jobs stopped it for me. These days I would be lucky if I manage 30 minutes in a game.

The hardware I used at the time was always overkill enough that I never had to be concerned about performance dips. After all the virtual was my only life at one point. Had there been dips then I suppose that given my OCD then yes it may have further worsened my sanity. It would not have detracted from my obsession though, it would have increased it - I would have endlessly sought absolute perfection.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

Haha yeah sometimes I feel like I should build a mid-range computer too... might be a good way to try AMD's gpus too  :P

I think games have been just less interesting

and  drive me off with "pre order a season Doritos pass" to singleplayer games

Yeah I've been wondering if it was just me or were games not very interesting either...

This happens to me so much to the point i just turn off the fps counter and stop giving a shit.

The game that I enjoy the most is dota 2 because it runs pinned at 120 fps xD

I should seriously try doing that. I always game with an fps counter and that might be what keeps me from enjoying the game... I game on dual monitors and I always have monitoring software up. Maybe i should stop with that too...

because the games you've tweaked and put that hours didn't pay off with the excitement over tweaking you've done.

games became more mainstream for non-gaming individuals, developers puts more into graphic fidelity and dumb down almost anything to make it more appeal for the audiences they've targeted.

Hmm yeah I agree with you...

I think I just expect too much in regards to graphics and then I end up not enjoying the game... But then games with good graphics aren't always good in regards to their story...  :(

Btw i was trying to play human revolution. I just couldn't stand the graphics... (i didn't really like the play style either though)

This is also the reason why I can't play the Half Life Series... I haven't started witcher either because I just know it won't look as good as i want it to. Are there any graphics mods for witcher?

Whats everyone's take on DSR for older games? I haven't really used DSR much because it always screws up my second monitor....

Felt the same way now I have already 20h in GTA V...
I think it's just that most games since Ps4/XboxOne release aren't really good probably because they get stretched out between 5 platforms.
This is the first year since 2013 where I'm really interested in many games.
This are the games I'm buying for sure this year:
Star Wars Battlefront
Batman Arkham Knight
The Witcher 3
GTA V
The Division
Rainbow Six Siege
Mortal Kombat X
Tekken 7
Project Cars

I found myself like that for a while, all It took was a game that realllllly hooked me to get me enjoying gaming again.

The sort of game where you can't wait to play again, you are planning what you are going to do the next time you play.

Can be hard to find the game that makes you like that, but if you do It really helps.

After that, just felt like it made me enjoying gaming itself much more. I stopped caring about checking everything every five mins, because damn that Afterburner text in the corner is distracting me from the game damnit. I played for fun not because I was interested if I could push my GPU.

For me it was Fallout 3 + Fallout NV (Combined with a mod so both are in the same game).

I really recommend GTA V runs like a dream and the story is a blast as is online.

For the Witcher 3 you don't really need to play 2.

From your list I would highly recommend Mass Effect 2(Also 3), Final Fantasy XIII, and Hitman Absolution(loved that game).

I almost forgot Just Cause 3 is also releasing this year so that's also top on my list.

And if you like Dragon Age you should try Dragon Age Inquisition it's really good.
