As the title suggests...and I thought VRAM wasn't stackable? I have 2 980's

The game probably just said yolo and added together the video memory from the 2 cards

Even at 1440P I don't really see a game using 8GB of Vram, I still think that the halving of the numbers will work here.

The game itself sees the Vram as 8GB, but both cards still have the same data in memory.

 

I am rather certain that you simply wouldn't be able to code this into a game with the currently available API's.

If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

srry to burst your bubble, but I heard that it just adds the 2 cards vram together, but you can still have only 4gb usable cuz of sli rules

Not accurate. GTA IV did the same thing for my crossfire setup many many years ago.

not stackable, they are in a sort of raid, everything currently on one card is mirrored on another card.

If I turn off VSYNC it causes tearing, I can do 60fps no problem, but I dont like tearing

Realistically your using over 8gb.

But thats because the menu doesnt tell the truth :C

It's just a flawed calculation for SLI scenarios. VRAM will stack with DX12 but it will be a while before dx12 native games come out...

This is LTT. One cannot force "style over substance" values & agenda on people that actually aren't afraid to pop the lid off their electronic devices, which happens to be the most common denominator of this community. Rather than take shots at this community in every post, why not seek out like-minded individuals elsewhere?

No, not yet. Under win10/dx12, you will.

Ive got two 980's too and I am getting 90+ fps.

Ah, so in fact I'm only using 3.5 out of my 4GB, not 7 out of 8
