Experiences with non-techies

indeedio, if they open a store down here I'll jump on that super quickly.

I live there as-well, but that would cost quite a lot to get a store here.

-_-

Actually if the laptop can connect to an eGPU enclosure like the razer core, then yes it is possible

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

well, that's coming, but that wouldn't be "in" it now would it ;)

Besides, we all know what was really going on: they thought they could install a 980ti in their laptop.  Just no. :P

its 2:06 am im tired and still trying to have this poor woman who is having trouble with her first ever computer (she really screwed it up in the one month shes had it) i dont even want to read the posts before this i cant pay attention to it im that tired. it wont allow me to do a fresh install of windows. a boil down of some of the issue i had that lead me to my sleep deprived state im in now is over here >>>>

and i mean its just... i dont know anymore it scares me how much damage people can do yet i go to challange myself to see how much shit malware etc i can get on a vm in 10 minutes and i cant even get 20...........

its all fun and games to talk about non techies till your actually fixing their stuff.....

but i swear there was like the strangest stuff on that thing at first, she must have hit an ad telling her to install this program and then go forward from there or something.

as long as i have my blade and soul, subnautica, and youtube. i should be able to keep my sanity through this night of whatching progress bars for installations that are bound to fail and repeat

I mentioned to my friend the other day that just got an i7-4790k / 970 / 8gb ram build that I had 12Gb of RAM in my new laptop because I was getting really annoyed at my school's desktops only having 1gb of ddr2 memory, that can barely run anything, and he turns to me and goes:

"WOW! 12Gb of RAM!! you could run GTA V on that!"

*facepalm*

BTW my laptop is nowhere near capable of running GTA V, with a i5-5500U and integrated graphics..

JEDEC standards dictate 1GB as 1024MiB, though. Notice how a 4GB stick of RAM isn't 4 billion bytes, but rather 4,294,967,296 bytes.

Look at the units you used

Just need more people to learn the units.

And for the all too prevalent (mis)use of "MB" (for example) to mean 1024^2 bytes to come to an end :)

Which, the thread in general or the recent debates?  The thread is just supposed to be people sharing funny/ridiculous things they've experienced with people who don't know much about technology :)

I figured out that my aforementioned TP link fail is due to Windows 10 not detecting my Ethernet port. I still havnt been bothered to find out how to fix it yet though.

True.  It doesn't help though that Windows uses 1024 but uses the MB, GB, etc labels.  In fact, I think that might be the cause of all the confusion people have had (and continue to have) over the years.

Well, I wouldn't call that "playing" so much as executing the code successfully, but to each their own ;)

My friend bought a BlackWidow Chroma for a ridiculous $300 at JB HI FI when you can get the keyboard and the Deathadder Chroma for $294 at mwave.

Epic fail.

$6 isn't that big of a deal.
