What's with the Japanese clothing for LMG employees

Misanthrope

You'd be almost the only person in the entire city wearing a hat.

I'd be fine with that.. I'm from the cold harsh north.. I'd fry in mexico

No actually the equivalent would be to people to dress like 1930s gangsters and such.T

Then everyone would be wearing suits and all it wasn't till the 1950's they start with the fashion things (hat backwards, glasses, hoes and all)

You must be fun on vacations, whining about not doing the stuff that makes places like Japan different from places like here.

Guess what? I lounge like a lazy bastard in a hotel provided robe after the pool. This is the Japanese version of the robe. Deal with it? It isn't "cosplay". Neither is eating food with chopsticks, which is kinda how the food is meant to be eaten.

I think what OP needs to get into his head is that this is not just a hotel. think of it like an overnight adventure at a SPA

Yeah I totally agree with you OP. I don't get why they ate Japanese food either. Why not just go to Japan and eat at Mc Donald's for the entire trip? Why would you want to experience another culture?

The hotel provides you with their equivalence of a bath robe? Fuck that, you're a Canadian so clearly you should have packed with you a Canadian bath robe and used that!

I don't see how it's old-timey if people still wear them today.

It's like with everyone who visites NYC buys ''I love NYC/NY'' hats or shirts or a New York Yankees hat, but doesn't know the first thing about NYC. (I come from NYC btw)

All I know about NYC is that to get there, you just follow the smell of urine in the streets.

Also that its run by complete and utter socialists.

The kind of people who put such a large tax on cigarettes that they drive the price up to about 20$ a pack, in an effort to get people to quit, even though it's not their f'ing business who does and does not smoke.

Oh, and the kind of people that attempted to make it illegal to sell "sugary drinks" above a certain size.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

My history professors in college found this saying profoundly disturbing given the sorts of unsavory practices that were common in Roman times. That being said they were history professors, not really the life of the party in any situation.

You don't really need to dress like the locals to experience the culture. You're living on the city for a while, eating their food, visiting the places they visit. That should be more than enough for your experience.

Or maybe I just really really, really dislike cosplayers and this is misdirected criticism.

I wouldn't even call it cosplay, unless you count wearing a bath robe given to you at a Canadian hotel for "cosplaying as a Canadian".

What they did in Germany was clearly cosplay. They wore things Germans don't typically wear and they went out of their way to do it. With this it was just "hey the hotel gave us these comfy clothes. We should probably wear them".

Yeah hotels sometimes give you bath robes. I don't go around the hotel in public using them however.

but in this case its the norm.

like I said. rework your brain so that they are spending the night at a SPA. so after a spa session of foot massage hot rocks greasy massage and a mud bath they hand out in the attached restaurant in a bathrobe and get entertained with food and drink by their hosts. thats how you should think of it.

ALSO most hotels don't ask you to take off your shoes. if in fact they are at a ryokan or an onsen their shoes ARE  IN FACT OFF ALL THE TIME. if Mr. redneck, I don't give a fuck american, walks in with his shoes, he's going to have a bad time.

this is not a normal hotel experience. even I haven't spent a night at a ryokan

Shoes are off. yukata is on (if you want to... and most will choose to)

Have you never heard of Mayor Bloomberg or Mayor "Bill De Blasio" I put the second guys name in quotes because it isn't his actual name. Real name "Warren Wilhelm Jr."

so its obvious you haven't worn a yukata. its more comfortable than wearing a t shirt and pants.

edit: and take it from me: someone who wore a yukata all summer for a summer job its freaking cool and comfortable in the summer heat.
