New EVGA Pro SLI bridges advertised to improve gaming

Does an SLI bridge affect performance? Apparently the guys over at EVGA seem to believe they do. They are boasting a handful of "next generation" features on their new upcoming SLI bridges. Is this a marketing ploy or can this actually be proven? Decide for yourself:

 

EVGA has amped up the bling with the new EVGA PRO SLI BRIDGE V2. These redesigned bridges come with several improvements over the previous generation SLI bridges. Sounds like it doesn't, but perhaps the original SLI cables are really poorly done. I doubt EVGA would say something like this only to be false. A less flashier edition would be nice.

They could have just say "they look cool, we have them in a bunch of colours to match your rig" and they would have sold blazing fast, but they had to go the Nvidia ways and flat out lie .

 

I know they dont sell them in colours, but that would have been nice, or use an RGB led on them.

That's why I thought it was funny. I have never seen anyone associate this term with an SLI bridge, which is essentially just a ribbon cable connector.

Oh man, I just recently purchased the original EVGA SLI bridge, and this new version looks like it would match my ACX 2.0 980's better. This always happens...It reminds me of when I ordered my Corsair H100i and literally 5 days later the H100i GTX was released...

They aren't claiming a performance increase, they're claiming that in a few very specific situations (in game X, running on resolution X, at X refresh rate) where multi-card configurations caused flickering on the display.

 

And I believe that in those one or two unique scenarios this bridge might solve the flickering.

And thanks to those few unique scenarios they were able to add "optimized for 4K+ and 120Hz+ gaming" to the box.

Probably just a marketing trick but since it connects 2 gpus better connection can improve gameplay but the difference would be next to 0

Because it misrepresents the tangible benefit of the product.  A SLI bridge shouldn't have any effect on performance, but by saying "It helps with 4K or 120Hz+ gaming" they're being grossly misleading as to the benefit of the component.  

 

It's like when people advertise food as "containing X servings of fruit" because people are fucking idiots and think that means something is healthier.  

 

Marketing should highlight the strengths of your product, not invent them or exaggerate small things so much that it becomes a prominent feature.  *cough* MSI's "military class components" *cough*.
