Minecraft running at 45 FPS on a GTX 970

I've recently have been noticing that my minecraft fps has been going down ALOT.

from running at 400fps to 45 is alot, then i checked msi afterburner and it say's that it's only using about 15 to 30% of the GPU. 

Any Ideas to fix this?

That's just absolutely not normal. Go into F3 and in the top right you should see your RAM usage. Chances are you're hitting 100% of your 2GB.

 

In control panel under Java, there's a tab inside that labeled java where you can put parameters. Put one of the following in:

 

• -Xms512m - = 500MB
• -Xms1024m = 1GB
•  -Xms2048m = 2GB

Could be not enough RAM, could be that you need to manually set java as a game in the 3d preferences in the control panel, i had this problem with SEUS a while back. Also check vsync

welcome to java, are you running 32bit or 64 bit (if you can set render distance to more than 16 its 64bit, in which case, yeah thats normal), minecraft doesnt use your gpu worth a damn but if the area you're in has lots of hills (like the extreme biome preset) its very memory bandwidth intensive as it has to load chunks constantly, run it in windowed mode with task manager and msi afterburner and post the print screen.

Assign more ram, I had this ages ago, and only used 300mb out of 1GB and got crappy FPS, I then assigned 8gb and the usage shot up to 2.5gb in use and FPS increased a lot.

May help may not, but that helped me.

if its online then it could be a case of ripple/lag as there is a bit of a disturbance between your movement and the sever getting the information and updating your position etc, while a laggy connection waits to update your pc has nothing to do so your gpu usage drops and spikes very quickly (as seen) and your fps is low, if you use afterburner to monitor frametimes you'll probably see huge spikes.

see if it happens in single player on a similar sort of area.

Dude you need to upgrade. A 970 isn't good enough for minecraft, and I would recommend at least a pair of 980s underwater. If you want 1080p then you will need a pair of Titans, but if your on a budget I would just use the 980s on 900p. Good luck!

it only seem's to happen only online so you might be right

single player is very easy, might be worth (doing a speedtest a few times to get a general idea of your ISP then...) trying another server (with maybe 5-12 people) and seeing if that problem is still there, if it isnt (or isnt as bad) its likely server side.

this is why lots of people have problems on online multiplayer like arma3, the second its an amd rig everyone slams it as amd being rubbish, when its intel noone has an idea (if you had an amd rig how do you think this thread would have gone?).

truth is lots of game servers are very cheaply run and using minimalist hardware so surprise surprise online gaming can suck.

just throwing these out there for your reference
