For that much, you could do whatever it is you want. It would help if we knew some more information about your intention.

Isn't there some suggested outline for asking this question on here somewhere?

Edit: found it in the Build planning section

You don't even need that much for an high-end rig tbh.

i7 4790k + asus mobo

GTX 970-980 or above

8/12/16gb ram

128gb ssd + 1 or 2tb hdd

Supplier of 750W or more if needed

And some additional stuff such as the monitor and cases etc.

This is not everything you need, I just point a direction you can go to. You'll have to make a whole list of everything you want, and it really depends on what FPS. I mean 8gb ram is enough, but if you do programming next to it, or you have a lot of tabs open you might want 12 or 16.

Is quite high-end and won't cost you that much.

With that budget you could play any game maxed out across all 3 monitors.

I recommend getting 3 1080p displays, as 3 4k displays would eat up your budget.

I also say you would be best with a 5000 series Intel Cpu and dual Titan X

No, no video editing. Just gaming. Also, a triple 1440p monitor setup would be nice. As I said, I'm fairly knew to PC gaming. I'm just not sure about what motherboard/graphics card/amount of ram/cpu/monitors/etc

This is what I meant, really nice setup for nowadays games.

If you really need to get rid of your money go search for a better gpu than the 980.

970 is a LOT of bang for your buck, 980 is a lot more expensive (like 100-150dollar more) and isn't that much better than the 970.

I recommend either 970 or higher than 980 imo.

Snip

For multi monitor get a 980 for triple 1080p, for 1440p I'd get a Titan X (more vram, better gfx chip, and better for higher resolutions).

Fairly new to PC gaming. I know the basics.

As the title says, what can I get with $4.5k usd. I'm looking for a triple monitor setup.

Sorry if I'm breaking any rules, I don't intend to.

4.5K would get you a system that could do some truly stupid stuff in terms of performance and graphical fidelity. You'd even have room to 'bling' out your case with custom water cooling and other goodies if you wanted.

For CPU and mobo (I'm an intel guy, someone else will need to chime in with an AMD solution) you can go either 4790K or 5820K. 5830K/58(60?)K are also viable, but more expensive. For three monitors you will probably want at least two graphics cards, unless you don't plan to use them together as one giant display. Because I assume you'll be using multiple graphics cards, the number of PCIe lanes available from the CPU is very important.

The 4970K only supports 16 PCIe (enough for one video card) lanes natively, which means when you pick your Mobo you will be paying a premium price to get a motherboard that has a special chip which adds extra PCIe lanes for you so that you can continue to use your cards at full speed. Otherwise, going with the 5820K, which supports 28 lanes out of the box (16 + 8 + 4), Which is an acceptable two graphics card solution, though, again, paying more for a motherboard which has that PCIe lane boosting chip might benefit you (I'm ignorant on this point. In general if I have a 3 inch pipe, I want it connected to a 3 inch pipe, not necked down to a 1.5" pipe).

Beyond that, the rest of the components are pretty much pick what you want. Oh, RAM, sorry, no. RAM matters. You'll be using DDR3 if you get a 4790K and DDR4 if you get the 5820K.

edit: For reference, in 2009 I built a computer for $2000 which I still use today. It's gotten a couple upgrades over the years, a new video card, more RAM (it was on sale, I didn't really need it) and more hard drives. All told, the upgrades were probably $500 together.

Since you got a 4.5-5K budget.

5930k

x99 Asus WS-E or Rampage V Extreme (Get the ROG board if you want to water cool the board)

32GB of DDR4 (G-skill value is great as no heatsink and ready for water cooling)

2x 4TB WD Black Put in Rain0

Titan X

EVGA 1600w T2 PSU

ASUS Swift 1440p(3x) or Acer 28" Gsync 4K monitor
