That's probably about correct for most gamers. Production software tends to be far more expensive than even newly released games.

 

I stopped pirating software some years ago and utilize mostly open source software for anything productive (though Office is paid for by the company I work at). Plenty of tools out there for the hobbyist to obtain without keeping a chest of less-than-legal 0s and 1s.

i dont like those 0s and 1s becuase they have also have VERY BAD 0s and 1s with it too

One of my other concerns. At one point, the software would be run in a VM before being allowed to run on the host OS.

I despise it when any of my devices/programs are acting oddly in any way, or even a random lag spike out of the blue on the OS. As such, startup programs are non-existent, and SSDs have been my best friend.
