so my brother wants a gaming computer and he allready has 970 at home, we bought them together

but his budget doesn't allow him to get i5

he's looking at new i3 4360

we watched some videos on youtube and i3 performs really good, they played farcry4 and battlefield 4 on ultra

so, will there really be big difference if he got i5?

The i3 is an amazing budget CPU. I seriously recommend it.

The 970 will bottleneck a bit but if he can't afford an i5, then it's a great stepping stone until he can get an i7

My i3 4160 handles everything i throw at it.

There isnt a single game it doesn't handle.

Even watch dogs was perfectly playable and that game is the epitome of shit.

Yes it handles bf4 Multiplayer very well also dont even ask Q_Q.

I just need to use mantle and its super smooth.

the i3 runs well but it won't for too long. And it will bottlenect a 970. Get an i5 (seriously).

The best gpu I would pair with an i3 is the 280x

Won't for long? Are you stoned?

4160 is almost same performance as 4360, what GPU you have?

Things like FC4, ACU and watch dogs aren't too great on it (then again, the 2nd and 3rd are broken).

Take the pentium K as an example. Yes the i3 has 4 cores and HP but it is still a dual core. We are slowly moving towards the point where a quad core will be needed for fluid gameplay (and 16gb of ram too). It will run just fine on all today's games and the titles in the next 2-3 years but not beyond that. And why would someone pair a 120$ cpu with an 300+ gpu?

Longboarders/ skaters message me!

an i3 is dual core with hyperthreading and that kind of makes it a quad core? :D /jk

It's a great build, I don't see the problem?

I built my friend an i3 + 7950 (R9 280) and it runs things at ultra pretty smooth.

an i3 isn't going to stop you playing the latest AAA titles. you'll still see 80-100fps in games such as BF4 with a 970, so lessor demanding games will be a breeze

Gaming PC: • AMD Ryzen 7 3900x • 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200mhz • Founders Edition 2080ti • 2x Crucial 1tb nvme ssd • NZXT H1• Logitech G915TKL • Logitech G Pro • Asus ROG XG32VQ • SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless

Eventually, there will be more and more AAA games that it can't play, the same thing will happen to I5's, I7's, etc.

Just like eventually the 970 won't be enough anymore. All hardware eventually falls behind

i3-4360 is 142$ right now and i5-4440 is 173$...that would be 31$ well spent IMHO.

Far cry 4 inst good on it?

Funny my runs at 50 fps on very high settings.

Is that speculation?

I have a 270x/i3 4160 and play at 1440x900.

Bro you can't just work out someones cost.

They could live somewhere it's completely different or they are buying it off someone.

But if he is right OP then buy an i5..

Save for the i5. It's not that the i3 is going to disappoint you. There's a guy on youtube, DestinyGamer with a Pentium K overclocked to 4.4GHz running an 970 (clearly bottlenecked I might add, 60-100% GPU usage; 1/2 the time 70s) but he was having 40+ fps max out in games at 1080p, inclusive BF4 64 multiplayer. The i3 would be about the same range as this overclocked Pentium. However with just a lil more money jumping to an i5 you'd prolly see 70+ fps constantly instead so save up the money since your eye is on such a high priced i3

System: Intel Core i3 3240 @ 3.4GHz, EVGA GTX 960 SSC 2GB ACX 2.0, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 Kingston HyperX RAM, ASRock B75M-DGS R2.0 Motherboard, Corsair CX430 W Power Supply
