Apple Watch Event - Live Coverage (Watch + Retina Air + Retina Macbook + HBO Now + ResearchKit) UPDATED

the macbook looked nice, until i saw that it only has 1 usb port.  I mean, really?  you couldnt cram another one in there?  i mean sure, lots of battery is nice, BUT ONE USB PORT IS NOT NICE AT ALL!  plus, it is so overpriced.  so so so overpriced, as apple usually is...

Considering they seem to be aiming at the jewelry market more than the tech enthusiasts with it, plenty of people will. And think about it, plenty of people pay a lot for plenty of things. It's all about perspective.

And it's not $1100, it's $10,000.

Yea, as stated before. This is for rich people. Rich people buy differently. A 10k watch is nothing.

Intel Core M...here we go.

It's really weak D:

And can throttle very easily...let's see if the full-metal chassis fixes that.

However, I cannot imagine how anyone would work with an engine like Unity or Unreal without a mouse

if you work in unity or unreal your most likely not working on your 12" screen or are you?

It's not that weak, but still weaker than the i5 4260U that was used in the previous MBA.

no way to fit a fullsize usb port there ...

I sit with hundres of CS majors using all kinds of tablets and laptops at university.

almost none of them use a mouse.

any-semi serious work? what semi-serious work are you doing on a 12" notebook that requires a mouse?

Don't change the topic. I was pointing to the power connector. It fits. And unlike the Surface Pro, there is plenty of room for 2 Type-C connector.

And also, they have 13.1mm to play with. A FULL size USB port is 6mm. They decided to make the sides thinner for no reason.

Also,

surface_pro_3_2.jpg

So the Surface Pro 3, despite its full size USB 3.0 port, fan, and charging port, it is STILL thinner than the new MacBook.

Did I mention it has a dedicated charging port, FULL size USB 3.0, and mini DisplayPort, oh and microSD card.

No excuses!

Unless you are remote desktoping probably not, but I still find it very nice to have a mouse available when I'm programming (Especially with larger-scale projects)

LMFAO!  Aren't computers supposed to become faster as time progresses?  You're seriously telling me that Apple decided to use an inferior processor to its previous generation model?  What a fucking joke!

Also, the zenbook ux305 is fanless too and comes at $699 with a 256GB SSD and 8GB of RAM and with a 1080p. The version with a 4k display starts at $999. Can get about 8h of battery life

They chose to use a seemingly inferior chip to do a few things, but it boils down to this.

Improve battery life, make it smaller and make it quieter (since they can run it passively.)

I'm not saying it was a good choice, but it's not the most logically sound one.

the lower body is about 8mm thick !!

the part were the usb-c connector sits about 4.5 mm ...

The image I presented includes the display, the kick-stand, and room for for the fan.

Core M is 5W and requires no fan. So it could be shrink down. Full USB port is 6mm. fits with your 8mm measurement.

And I showed you a picture of the power port. Here it again.

For right to left: Mini DisplayPort, USB 3.0, Power connector, micro SD card slot. The device is 9mm thick with the kick-stand.

Wouldn't it be more prudent to make it slightly thicker to allow for a larger battery?  Given their approach to phones, it doesn't seem like Apple gives a shit about battery life.

It's the Air, so the point is for the device to be thin. Making it thicker would be as much as a step back.

There's always a step back before it goes forward, if a chip allows at present time to become basically silent then so be it. Notebooks aren't desktops, so I always see a step back when form changes, and then there is a step forward.

I travel a lot, would love the air but it might not be enough for 4K video or cad"well cad yes, but just slow..." I'd love a gold macbook!

I love how people talk about how shitty apple computer battery life is when its clearly the gold standard in laptop battery technology.

My 4 year old fully speced macbook pro still gets 5 hours of battery life after 500 cycles.

Edit: aren't they rating the new macbook to be at 18 hours of battery life?

I have a 2019 macbook pro with 64gb of ram and my gaming pc has been in the closet since 2018
