What can i do with 16GB?

RRGT19

Hi,

I had 8GB before and i sold the modules (2X4GB).

2 weeks ago, i bought 16GB Corsair Vengeance because it was cheaper and now i don't know what can i do with it.

I have open a few programs and a game running but it is not enought for 16GB.

Any advice?..

Should i leave all my programs open or what?..

I just want to use the 16GB really.

You won't really use up all 16GB unless you're doing heavy content creation.

I regularly use 10+ GB.  That being said I am a tab fiend.  I usually have 4 windows of chrome going with 8-12 tabs each.  Along with other programs.  You don't get 16 GB of ram and try to fill it up.  You get more ram because you bump up to what you have or are future proofing.

I don't see why you NEED to fill it up... The point of buying more RAM (I hope) was to make sure it doesn't fill up... That said, just find an hour of 4k video and render it all in Windows Movie Maker.

if you REALLY want to use it up, then get some kind of stresstest program (HeavyLoad for example) and use the ram module... Else, you wont fill that much ram...

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

No, they just do that on their newgen consoles once they realize the lack of decent game releases.

for just personal use, i don't how to fill that 16gb of ram..

but at work i'm using so much spreadsheet over google drive and at the end of the day, my 8gb is filled up..

16gb won't be allocated to me since i'm not doing content creation, i just have to close some sheets before the shift ends to free some ram space

Well, I just had open Firefox with 25 tabs, Chrome with 36 tabs, Opera with at least 75 tabs, and IE with eight tabs. Plus Dragon Age: Inquisition just chilling in the background for the heck of it. And I hit 9.3GB of ram, running on Windows 7 Pro.

At this time of writing, there is no real reason for any consumer to go over 12GB for regular entertainment purposes. Really, 8GB should be fine.

For professional creative producers, more ram is essential. I easily hit 24GB when producing a standard orchestral piece of music, and the only reason it's not more is because currently that's all I've got. And I'm sure the screen editor guys here will tell you how easy it is when rendering video.

Though slightly mentioned before, if you know a certain amount you will not go beyond, make a ramdisk and use it to run a few commonly used programs and games you run. Or... just wait a year for browsers to be more cluttered and inefficient and just watch all your po.. err linus tech videos in glorious full 4k with a vr device strapped on your noggin.

You buy more than 8gb not to max it, but so that you wont have to. Antything over 16 is for professional purposes. The way of thinking of trying to max is not good, just think of ssds and psus. For them, the larger the load and usage decreases efficiency.

I regularly go over 10gb of ram usage even when not playing games. That's what 200 plus chrome tabs will do to you. Between that and having shit like Vms, documents and a slew of other programs own at any given time I'm happy I went with 16gb of ram. In fact I will probably make the jump to 32 at some point in the near future.
