Bad Experience at a local LAN event...

Suffokation

A couple days I go I was at a LAN event for AoE2. A guy there, who was clearly an AMD fanboy (AMD Shirt, AMD snapback, AMD bottle opener) had a quite beastly system. He had 3 780Ti Poseidons, 16GB of Veng Pro, a 1TB Samsung EVO and like, 4 WD Red's.

But, the kicker was, he had a 8150. Yes folks you heard it. A 8150.

I tried to explain to him that his system is being bottle-necked but he refused to even consider it.

Ontop of all that, he thought MY system was being bottle-necked... That entire night was a nightmare as I had to sit next to him.

Never again...

Did he ask you if his computer was balanced or not? If not, I don't see why it was necessary for you to point that out to him.

Granted, (taking into account his attire and build, along with your position) I'm going to assume that one way or another, he started proudly naming off the parts that went into his build; after which you pointed out the potential bottleneck.

He was bragging about how he gets 4.8GHz on his 8150 and then said that "even stock 8150's don't bottleneck but I wanted to go faster!".

A guy once grabbed my boobs at a lan event. Apparently he made a bet with his friends but I wasn't a part of it(well, it was random from my perspective). I let him off easy by pushing him away and telling him to F off, but I'm sure there was fire in my eyes lol.

I want to do this just once, bring my rig to a LAN event and listen to the fanboys brag.

Because with AMD cards he'd trip the breaker at the lan event

Shots fired.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

BTW his logic is likely higher clock speed and more cores = more performance. He obv got that chip and overclocked it and thinks IPC doesn't exist.

I have a sandy i7 that doesn't bottleneck shit with my 970, and likely not for 2 970s either.

I hope you do more with that X99 system than play games and make fun of an AMD fanboy.

Sorry, I can't quote using the button for some reason, but this is in response to @Suffokation. (Is this how it's done manually?)

Don't worry, you don't need to give me proof that he was bragging about his rig, affluence, and/or skills (perhaps?). My point is that if you didn't entertain the conversation, he should've ran out of material to talk about quickly. As an alternative to letting the conversation run dry, perhaps you could've brought up how Anonymous announced they were going to retaliate to the terrorist attack in Paris (to switch topics)? Either way I believe that you could've handled the situation better.

I had a small LAN party at my house with three of my friends, after playing a bit of Quake and a bit of Dota 2 my friend get out his new Logitech G27, which he bought off eBay 2 days before. After 30 mins of Next car game it breaks. We spend several hours disassembling it, find that a sensor has broken and a new one needs to be ordered from Thailand. A week later he gets the part, comes over and we put it back together.... It doesn't work. RIP.
