700 Billion dollars a year goes to our military, all of that money is just what's accounted for. This doesn't cover all of the spending done towards private weapons contractors and other spending that drops through the cracks.

 

Yeah not a lot of money right?

 

 

 

Military aside, how about all of the money that is spent on bullshit political lobbying to big corporations like oil and special interests groups?

Blaming the military soley is annoying. Especially when you blame war when most of the budget for the military isn't spent on that.

Budget per year is about a trillion dollars, less than that goes to the DoD. We only spend about $80 Billion a year in the middle east. How do I know? I've seen the numbers for myself.

sorry everyone just calls him obama, since he's a pretty chill president. i do respect alot of the things he has tried to do.

I was just listing an example. I don't solely blame the military.

I could also blame large corporations who don't pay a fair wage and who abuse the system for political gain and voice.

I could blame the system itself for allowing large corporations to be seen as a "person" with voting rights and a political assignments.

I could blame politicians who gladly accept political "donations" from Oil, Gun lobyists, the auto industry etc. all to strengthen their political reach in exchange for favors.

 

I have said these things in the past, so no I don't blame the military solely. I blame damn near everyone in power.

And that I can agree with whole heartedly. If you take all the people in companies that make over $10m and limit their pay to $4m and put the rest towards employees then everyone will be able to afford college. I'd also limit how much a college can charge because it isn't as expensive as they'd like to make it out to be.

i mean i understand we are on the verge of war every 5 years. but can we spend less. if china was to ever go to war with the US in a hypothetical world, they would have a pretty huge chance of kicking our ass even when they spend around 10-20% on their military compared to us.

Lol, true that. I live in West Virginia (a not entirely shitty part of it) and I believe our education system is failing. I also go to West Virginia University and quite frankly I find it to be quite shitty. The location of the university is almost a quite dangerous one, and to make it worse most students act like children and vandalize everything like a bunch of rampant animals. The staff is less than helpful and usually I can't understand a single word my professors say. Cannot wait to get the hell out of here.

 

Sorry about my rant. But yes, I completely agree with you.

another person on this topic said that its horrible to fund schools through property taxes. and that is also a great point because a school that has funding from a 10k property taxed family (my family) will be wayyyy better than that 3k taxed family that lives in some janky town in los angeles

It's a cycle guys, education is what enables a nation to take the lead. However once we get to the point that we feel "Satisfied" we stagnate. Competition is one of the driving factors for improvement, when we start to lose it the need(drive) to improve drops off on the charts. I'd drag on with a whole rant about the economy and the current state of the United States position in education but I don't think anyone would want to hear that.

 

Proper education and competition can give fuel to create a prosperous economy because being involved in the shaping of a country's economic growth with open minded individuals who know the value of knowledge on topics such as finances, effects of social policies, and the need to constantly learn more, will do nothing but push for improvements every generation forward. Once we think were the "Best" and start to slack off is when we stagnate and degrade. 

 

At the risk of sounding cliche, Knowledge without wisdom(proper guidance by means of finding answers to questions yourself(open minded thinking)) will not get you as far as you'd like. 

 

Kinda off topic: Hot dam those oil prices and Solar Stocks dropping with them. COME ON OPEC GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER.
