Gigabyte shows off their 2083 socket motherboard at CES.

The motherboard is officially the Gigabyte X99 SOC Champion Motherboard.

The motherboard was designed with a dedicated switch for the changing of socket types.

The socket comes with extra pins following the design of the Asus OC Socket on their X99 motherboards.

That rear I/O......

Such a high-end board and then such a basic rear I/O is a huge let-down

didn't asrock used to do crap like this, where you could run different chips or ram types on a single board?

cant really see that its that high end, only 4 ram slots, looks pretty basic to me

Workstation:
Intel Core i7 5820k @ 4.4Ghz, Asus Rampage V Extreme, 32Gb G.Skill Ripjaws 4 2400 DDR4,2 x Nvidia 980 Gtx Reference Cards in Sli,

At the Champion’s heart beats a dual use overclocking socket with 2038 pins which is compatible with current 2011-v3 Haswell-E processors.  This socket, initially pioneered by ASUS, utilizes additional pin-outs and allows extreme overclockers to bypass the FIVR and also unlocks several voltage modifiers in the board’s BIOS.  Supposedly it will help with DRAM an Uncore overclocking as well.  Since these features will be of little use to anyone but liquid nitrogen or perhaps dry ice users, GIGABYTE allows for the extra pins to be disabled by the flip of a DIP switch.

For overclockers and those who simply want the best components possible, the Champion receives high end Cooper Bussmann server-grade chokes, an IR Digital CPU power design and 8+4-pin CPU power connectors.  In order to fit all of this into a standard ATX form factor, GIGABYTE did have to move away from the typical eight-slot DRAM design on most X99 motherboards and has implemented a simple yet completely adequate quad slot design.  Hopefully some upgrades have been rolled into GIGABYTE’s BIOS as well since previous iterations on X99 boards have been beset by teething problems.

So they throw on more pins instead of adding 4 more slots for RAM. Excuse me, but the best thing about X99 and these enthusiast boards is to have that extra, unnecessary amount of available RAM.
