[Newegg] $99 7870(r9 270) $129 7950(r9 280)

well the problem is buy it nows are generally overpriced, or bulk sellers.

but no matter what you do, dual 7950s or 7970s is the way to go

http://www.3dmark.com/fs/3637568

my benchmark with 2 "7950s" running at 1150 mhz

I cant afford dual, as im trying to WC too.

This seems to be a good, cheap one

not bad. but if your going to watercool you should go with 7970s. for 115 thats a solid deal. same cooler as my 7970, and its not the best. cant overclock far, but if your going to watercool then go for it.

Hmm, cant get that one, not referance, so no water block. These 3 are all referance. the powercolor looks good, but bulk. Same with the MSI. the XFX seems good, well tested, but not sure, seems bulk too.

How about no? My 7950 is loud and hot as hell. And you can't make the fans turn off unless you unplug them. And my HIS 6570 blew a MOSFET in like 3 months.

Do note that people who have issues speak up while those who don't stay quiet so take the reviews with a grain of salt.

Thank you for pointing this out as I don't think a lot of people understand this.

The 7950 is a great card and at that price, it's a steal  :)

took me a second, but oh. both of our CPUS are bottlenecks. mines overclocked to 4.4 ghz. so my single thread performance is probably better. thats all i can think off.

Theres no way the 4790k is a cpu bottleneck?!?!

I don't get why my phyx score is so much better than the combined score

well, it depends on whats happening, Im guessing its phyiscs simulation, but only a single core. or something. and everyones phyx score is way higher than the combined. its just how the test works.

only guess could be my single core is slightly better. I mean itd need to be, you have twice the logical cores, but not twice the score.

I'm pretty sure the 7950 is pretty close if not a bit better than the 670 due to the many driver improvements it's had.

Feel free to correct me if someone finds a recent comparison that shows otherwise though.

HIS is good. The fan used for the linked 7870 is actually pretty darn quiet with a quick foam isolating mod and the heatsink cools well enough in some cases that the fan can turn off at idle.

Foam mod:

I like when this guy mounts a cpu tower fan on his GPU, also the tutorial for having an external GPU + PSU to play on a seperate monitor with his laptop is brilliant. The guy is ingenious, love his videos too.

My 7950 is one of the XFX Double Dissipation ones that has dual-DVI outputs (so it's the non-reference model as well). Both of the fans get this annoying rattle around 80% (which I experience fairly often). I'm honestly considering getting a Kraken X31 and a G10 fir it, since they will apparently work on this card, but only after I can at least get the case and PSU for what will pretty much be an internet rig at my grandma's.

Yep. Still waiting for his custom case video that he teased a while ago.

really? I hadn't seen a r9 270 (7870) for $99 or a r9 280 (7950) for $129. I had been checking out the NCIX stores too. So if you mean their headoffice one, it doesn't do me, or most canadians any good.

The eBay cards are definitely mining cards.

You can usually ask for a live demo when it comes to Craiglist.

^ It has a nice fan that can be turned off with a custom fan curve with a case with good airflow.
