well i get that also intel sponsored it so i dont think linus gets to choose the winner,linus should do a minimum post required thing for his personal giveaways eg;the excavator he personally built and gave away last month

Nope you don't need to, I watched LMG for almost 2 years and only joined last year, a lot of people only want to watch videos and support LMG they don't want to join forums.

You're all under the assumptions that you would win something if it was above x number of posts. Unless you narrow it down to 5 people chances are you will never win a damn thing. Please get rid of that misconception and ignore any and all contests: they're not for you, they're made to help LMG grow their audience and get more views.

You may not win but it will increase your chances, I don't agree with you, you shouldn't build your community on giveaways it will be very bad for you, but it's a way to get more views, I think @LinusTech and @Slick would agree that building a channel on giveaways is horrible so would @JayzTwoCents.

Yet both continue to do regular giveaways. I am not saying that they built their audiences and channels on the back of giveaways as much smaller channels have a lot more giveaways and remain small afterwards it seems. But they do work and if they are combined with having frequent, high quality, compelling content they act as great publicity, if anything at the very least the brand sponsoring them would be happy and more likely to contribute more to their cause anyway so there's that too.

 

Ultimately I understand why you disagree as it is a point of principle: I believe all lotteries to be inherently flawed and a stupid waste of money. Here it's just a waste of time and not really money but the principle is the same: Don't ever expect to win any contest it's better to just budget for the stuff you want instead of hoping to win it in some contest.

We mainly do it because sponsors often want us to and the viewers ask for them CONSTANTLY so it doesn't really make sense to say no.

It's a win win really. A giveaway is pretty much a lottery. You don't enter expecting to win.

And I don't think companies like Intel

would be down with forum only giveaways because of less exposure etc. There's no way to fairly make sure any entrant is more of a contributor to the community than someone else.
