I was doing a hotlap in rF2 at Nords when it happened..

That car is on a hair trigger its a fine line between fantastic and sideways.

 

It helps if you adjust the rear tow to around 0 or just into the negatives. Same with the front alignment. Helps with stability under heavy braking. ;)

 

Also check tire temps across the width of the tire. If you see the inside or outside of the tire running hotter/colder, then adjust the camber accordingly. You want to see even temps across the width of the tires (when you're running hotlaps). That will make sure you're getting the most mechanical grip from the tires.

Yeah most cars are inherently setup to be more prone to understeer, however in AC there's a number of cars I found to have horrible heavy braking stability (the GTR is really bad for this). When I checked the alignment settings, one of the causes is that the rear wheels are by default towed out. This helps the car rotate in corners, but it also makes the car very unstable at speed and under braking - "twitchy", if you will. By setting the rear tires parallel or slightly towed in, that greaty increases stability and makes the car less twitchy. 

 

The science and physics behind suspension and alignment setup is an enormous subject. There are a large number of factors that, on their own may only make small improvements, but when collectively setup to work in unison, makes a HUGE difference. So it can be worth learning more about it, depending on how serious you are about breaking lap records. ;)

The nordschleife is special and at least it is preserved digitally now. The future for the real track is uncertain.

Anybody cracked 6 minutes on Nordschleife yet? Made an attempt last night in the Lotus 98T and landed a 6:05 - but it was a very conservative and sloppy lap. This car can dip into the 5's for sure, but damn it is a chore to drive. lol. 100% boost of course. :D

Hands-down, best bang for buck wheel and pedal set on the market. Gas/brake/clutch + 6-speed gated shifter and really nice force-feedback wheel. :D

I have a G27, and can vouch for it been a good racing wheel. Can take a little bit of time to get used to using a wheel though, and you will get frustrated with it. Just take things slow and you will pick it up in no time. One of the best ways to get used to using a wheel, is to do some drifting within a racing game. I always warm up on Assetto Corsa by taking out the drift spec E30 on a user created track called "dorifto mountain", or on "drift playground". It just helps to learn how countersteering and catching a slide before it becomes an issue. It also pays to try and drift the non drift spec cars, as they can often "snap" in the other direction while trying to catch a slide. 

I have used a Thrustmaster TX in the past also, as I got one for the Xbox one and Forza 5. It is a good wheel, if a tad unreliable; which is why I dont have one anymore. It is also lacking with out the box peripherals, but you can change the wheel rim, pedals, and get a 7 speed gated shifter for it. The shifter is by all accounts really decent and apparently hard wearing. The shifter also has a stand alone USB mode, or can be attached to the wheel base itself for use in Forza on the xbox one. I used it with Assetto also when I had it, and it was a blast. The FFB is smoother than the G27, as it is a belt driven wheel.

That is quite the blistering lap. But again, I believe this person was using paddle shifters and not a full manual setup like these cars actually were. Driving this car in full manual adds additional challenge, especially on the down-shifts as you have to juggle 3 pedals while trying to not lock up the tires, the shifter and one hand on the wheel to keep the thing straight all at the same time. The cockpit of those cars was a very busy place.

 

Since I did a very conservative run at 6:05, I'm pretty confident I can get well into the 5's. I may not ever pull off a 5:31, but at least I'm driving the car the way it's supposed to be driven. ;):P

So finally Playing ! ! 

 

Really just loving it, great feeling game. 

 

Wanted to find out, Where is the best place to get extra car mods. Not super interested in the latest and greatest, but rather enjoying thrashing some of the classics around Spa.

I played Assetto Corsa again.

I didn't know that the Nissan GT-R is that easily controllable.

Sadly on a server without tire blankets. I don't understand why people turn them off on servers with GT cars.

I wonder how much they had to down-grade the graphics settings for the consoles... 

 

Now that it's been much better optimized since early access, I wouldn't consider it an overly demanding game by today's standards. Should run decently on the consoles at 1080p medium settings. I can see the CPU being a potential bottleneck with the physics and high numbers of AI on track. Wouldn't be surprised if they reduce the max number of vehicles/players per race vs. the PC version.
