I may have created a monster - Girlfriend is building a serious rig (update 13/12/14)

Buildmeasystem

Hey guys,

Just joined the forum last night. Here's the latest project I'm working on.

My girlfriend recently came into some money and decided she wanted to build a gaming/content creating system. We started the project of with a decent budget, but it's ballooned into something really impressive.

Check out the specs.

CPU: Intel Core i7 5820k

Motherboard: Asus X99-A

Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 2400

GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 970 SC ACX2.0

Case: Corsair Obsidian 750D

fans: Corsair AF120 and AF140 Purple

Power Supply: Corsair AX760

Cables: Custom sleeved kit (purple and green) - from ebay seller

SSD1: Samsung EVO 840 250GB (boot drive)

SSD2: Samsung EVO 840 120GB (scratch drive)

HDD: Western Digital Black 2TB (data, project drive)

Cooling: EK-KIT L240  - Monsoon free center compression fittings (green fittings, purple angle adaptors)

GPU block: when EK launches it, we'll be ordering a full block and backplate for the GPU.

Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB (when we can find one)

Mouse: Corsair M65 RGB

This build is happening in 3 phases.

Phase 1: Obsidian 350D, AIO H55 cooler, X99 Micro mobo.

Phase 2: Obsidian 450D, AIO H55, Asus X99-A

Phase 3: Modified Obsidian 750D, EK full loop watercooling with purple fluid.

At the moment no mods to the case, mostly because she's getting impatient.

I'd like yo paint it purple with green accents. It may still happen.

Do it! It will be so worth it in the end.

Weird.

I just noticed that on my cell phone I'm logged in with a different account. I must have made one a while back and forgot about it.

*Pumcy is also me, which I'll gladly let be deleted*

Hey guys,

sorry I'm late with pictures. the images my phone takes are too large to upload so I had to wait until I had time to resize them.

There's going to be a couple updates in one as result.

So here we go. This is how the computer was originally built back in October.

Shortly after that we sold the reference design 970 and bought an ACX 2.0 OC edition. 2 were purchased at that time, but one was for a customer. I put it in to test SLI performance, and this is when we found our first issue with the X99 Micro board.

With 2 cards installed, unless you can find a 90degree adaptor, it's impossible to have the front USB3.0 cable plugged in.

Shortly after that I found out the the EK250L kit that we bought for the system won't fit into a 350D with this Mobo. The 4+4 pin is to close to the edge to fit the radiator + fans at the top, and since we can't relocate the HDD bay in this case without some serious mods (add that to the fact that this case was only used because I got it free. It was damaged in shipping and they reimbursed me the cost and told me I could keep it) Tracy decided that she would pick out her own case. Thus kicking off the rebuild.

Since her sister had ordered pretty much the same computer, and wasn't going to be doing SLI, we sold her the board. I left the CPU and memory in there for her. We'll use the new stuff for this build for simplicity sake, and because Tracy has never installed a CPU or memory before, and she wanted to do this start to finish.
